Would be Nice ..........

I know most of the readers of this are going to read it and laugh, but I dont give a (expletive deleted).

I think there is a guide missing from the all things section. I doubt anyone has actually realised it.

Wanna know what it is?
How to add users in Navicat. How to restrict them to certain things within the database. And all things related to that one subject.
And before someone starts spouting off that there is a guide by Drenferalis, ya right, there is. But it doesnt cover adding users.

I humbly ask that someone makes one, for the benefit of that section.

  1. Right click the connection in Navicat -> Manage Users
  2. Click "Add New User"
  3. Input 'User Name'
  4. Input 'Host', this can be: localhost (only connections on the same computer, same as 127.0.0.1) or you can put external ips or masks. Like 120.123.143.150 or 120.% (This will allow all people with an ip starting with 120 connect)
  5. Input 'Password' and 'Confirm Password'
  6. Leave the rest blank if you're not sure.
  7. If you wish to create a user with full access, click select all and you're done.
  8. If you wish to make specific rules, like select only and only on specific tables, you can expand the user view and give specific permissions to the user to the specific tables and/or databases

for navicat tutorials please reffer to there site or to this link

it can not be explained easyer , so why creating a tutorial for it when everything is already explained with screenshots and step per step ?

YES SIR!!!
Sorry i pointed out the obvious!!

I asked because there is a section here called ALL THINGS GUIDES AND RELEASES and it was a guide that was obviousl missing from that section. But obviously I cannot ask for someone to fill that gap.

Oh right, and that pdf tells you how to do things quickly?

Nope, didnt think so. I wouldnt fancy reading through however many pages there was in order to find the 4-5 lines of information needed.
There is also no troubleshooting section.

Where as here, a person is ALLOWED to ask a question, and someone points out a possible answer. And folks here know the software and have experienced more issues than can be found in a non-existant trouble-shooting guide.

But as i pointed out, no point having a section called ALL THINGS GUIDE AND RELEASES, when an item someone may need is missing.

ok you made your point
but navicat is to advanced to start with

it is partial self explaining but making a guide for it is pointless

for example
click on the big icon that says users ... click then on new users .. now you got a new user

if you need a tutorial for that part then i wonder how you would do things in the database on your own ??

right click on a database and click on open database
right click on a table and click on open table
left click on the text you like to change
change the text to what you like

oops , now we got a buggy database .. you just replaced a wrong text ...

thats the comment you going get over this if a tutorial is needed for that

there are a few things that does not need a tutorial , and if you need a tutorial for that part then i can say for sure that you will mess up everything and for your own good .. do not start a server then

it is like asking how to work with dns (domain name service)
there are plenty of tutorials for that , but if you do not know what TTL means (Time To Live ) and what it does then whats the point of it ? (just put it on 18000 and it is fine .. )

so this are the parts you wont find tutorials about , how sadly or usefull they can look

howto work with phpadmin
howto work with navicat
how to secure your database (user privileges , db privileges , ip locks) exept for the wildcard part (less secure)
how to remote connect to a user account ( wildcard only )

to give a other example
all users on this forum section ( atleast 75% ) is using Xamp/wamp/easy website / AppServ or any other instand apache /mysq/php service
but who does know how to configure apache ?
who does know how to lock on ip's ? or even change the basic port instead port 80 ?

you wont find tutorials over it eather on this forum , as they are useless if you do not know what they mean ( enouf info on google over it )

or even the my.conf .. who cares about that part ??

anyway
in short
some parts you need to figure out on your own
try to understand the meaning of it and then you can grow
if you do not understand a basic then its hard to grow

my examples of apache (httpd.conf )/my.conf (mysql) are a bit extreme exampls as they are barely used for private servers
but it shows my point that i mean

There is a difference between technical documentation and user documentation,
What he's asking for is something similar to 'flash cards' which allow for simple step by step process to do specific tasks.
