Hey folks!
For the last couple of months, we've been doing a closed beta test on our new 2FA system with premium and staff members. Thanks to their valuable contributions and feedback, we were able to further improve the system and bring it to a level suitable for a release to everyone!
The system is designed to significantly improve the security of your account while at the same time not being too bothersome and asking you for codes all the time. You also don't require an Internet connection or cell reception on your smart device for using 2FA!

During our closed premium beta test, we were able to fix several bugs and even some potential loopholes. In addition, the test taught us that the issue of people losing access to their smart devices and thus also their accounts was more common than we anticipated. This is why we introduced single-use backup codes that can be used to get past the 2FA whenever using an authentication code generated on a smart device is not an option. With the most recent update, you can also generate a new list of backup codes via UserCP, in case you forgot to write them down when you initially enabled 2FA.
We have also added additional buttons that allow you to print out these backup codes. You should use them to print out those codes and then store them at a safe place. If you prefer storing them digitally, never store them as plain text. Use some sort of encryption by putting them in the encrypted database of your password manager or a password-protected archive instead.
If you have a smart device at hand, you can enable 2FA on your account by visiting UserCP. If this is all new to you and you require more information, be sure to check out the board FAQ.
Feel free to use this thread for questions and/or general feedback on our 2FA system. However, if you think that you have spotted a serious bug that might compromise the security of the system, please report the issue directly to me via private message.
We hope that you enjoy our 2FA system and the added security to your account that comes with it. More importantly though, we would love to see as many accounts protected by 2FA as possible! So if you haven't done it already, we highly recommend to activate 2FA now!
