When people continuously use hacks in public it causes the general morale of the legit players to lower. The basis of the game is to make money for Acclaim. If the player base is unhappy they will stop playing and fewer people will view the ads. Thus revenue generated from selling the ad space will drop. Also, if they are having to waste time and manpower to review an enormous stream of screenshots they are losing the money they are paying the staff. This time and manpower is not cheap. Finally, who will pay cash to Acclaim for auto-applying potions if you can simply run a script to do this for you? Why buy a talisman to increase your chances of fortifying if you know how to manipulate the system to give you a 100% chance? Why pay for a costume if you can make your character appear anyway you desire? Public hacks can directly reduce Acclaims profit margins. Yes, patches may cost money, but in the long run it is more profitable to weed out the hacks whenever possible.
You asked for a push to help get you going. All I can tell you is that everything you need to know about 2Moons is in this forum. The old csv files are now compressed into a pack file. The old rules still apply. Everything still works the same as it did. The only thing that has really changed is the CRC-Check and the method of editing. The CRC check is way beyond my abilities. As for pack editing well it has been around since the early days of BMR(if not longer). I suggest you start reading old threads with an eye to understanding how it affected the game rather than how it was instituted. The method of editing may have changed, but most of the time the actual principle will still hold true. One last thing never underestimate the power of Google. I was the one who posted m_cher (although I wasn't the first to find it) I simply Googled "determine starting command line argument" and found what I needed. Nearly the entirety of human knowledge is posted somewhere on the web, from hacking, to recipes, to legal advice. What you need to know is probably out there, it is just a matter of finding it.
I hope this is enough to give you that push you needed.
