the mac address is an identical number of your network card. acclaim saved it while u creating a new account.

And i heard: Making two account with the same MAC address and refer them for acclaim coins = ban. thats why u should change mac and ip address for each new account!!!

The reason I ask, I looked for the APIs typically used for this, for example NetBios, and didn't find any.
So asking if anyone has any actual proof of it.

IMHO it's more likely they are just tracking IP addresses.
