Many applications are still compiled for 32bit. 32bit itself isn't really dead. Otherwise, Windows wouldn't support running 32bit applications.

32bit only operating systems, on the other hand, are basically dead, yes. A friend of mine has a "notebook" which only runs 32bit though. If OP is also running that kind of notebook, he should definitely upgrade
