I dont know if this source is reliable, but either way BigPoint has to do something about the ending support for flash in 2020. Therefore they have to pack it into a desktop application as a workaround to the browsers. This is what this installer could do in the future.

Porting it to HTML5 or other 2D-Engines (or 3D) would be very expensive and would result in a lack of features, but maybe they are already working on something like that and the installer is used for this application.

So, for have some better and clear ideas, what will happen for everyone? Will every players download and install DOR desktop version like a simple pc game and play? So every upgrade will be download and install from their servers on our pcs.. Is it?

Actually, I'm pretty sure, their client contains only embedded browser which loads flash stuff.

First of all if you would watch darkorbit stream actively you could know everything and that there is already a "client" which is working - they announced it on stream.
