It's a kind of strange they just let something like this float around
Today we would like to take some time to discuss a topic that has been a major talking point for the community and us developers alike, ever since it first appeared: Bots.
From the perspective of a player, which many of us are, the damages the bots can do are quite apparent and the resulting mood is understandable. Particularly in a game like DarkOrbit, which focuses heavily on PvP and rankings, we can clearly see that the value of a high rank or record scoring run is diminished when it’s not clear if that record was achieved legitimately.
The same goes for the whole development team, be it the Game Designer who spends a lot of time on balancing the game’s economy and encounters, the programmers whose code is abused by the bot creator or the numerous chat and forum moderators who work tirelessly to answer the questions and needs of the community; all trying to create a positive and enjoyable game for the honest players, which the vast majority of the player base are.
Over a period now, we have worked exclusively in the background and not made any public statements on this topic to ensure that the bot creators knew as little as possible about our measures and detection systems. And while we updated our encryption systems to try to shut the bots down, we feel that a holistic approach to this issue requires the support and understanding of the community itself.
That being said we would like you to know that we are currently working on a major update to the way bots are detected and punished which we hope will drastically change the overall amount and frequency of bots in the game. And while we anticipate this to be a big step in the right direction, as we speak out publicly against the use of bots, we ask you to do the same and take a stance against the bots, in-game and on the forums.
In closing: We have big plans for DarkOrbit, but we know the bot situation is critical and are working on multiple fronts to tackle this problem.

Wir möchten heute gerne ein Thema ansprechen, das schon seit langer Zeit einer der Hauptgesprächspunkte innerhalb der Community aber auch im Entwicklerteam ist: Bots.
Aus der Sicht eines Spielers - was auch auf die meisten von uns zutrifft - ist der Schaden, den die Bots anrichten und die daraus resultierende Stimmung sehr offensichtlich und absolut nachvollziehbar. Besonders in einem Spiel wie DarkOrbit, in dem sich sehr viel um PvP und die Ranglisten dreht, ist der Wert einer neuen Highscore oder anderer Erfolge deutlich in Frage gestellt, wenn nicht klar ist, ob diese auf ehrlichem Weg erzielt wurden.
Das Gleiche gilt für das gesamte Entwicklerteam. Sei es der Designer, der viele Stunden mit dem Balancing der Ökonomie und der Erstellung neuer Gegner verbringt, der Programmierer, dessen
Code von den Bot-Entwicklern missbraucht wird oder die vielen Chat- und Forenmoderatoren, die unermüdlich arbeiten, um die Fragen der Community zu beantworten; alle möchten ein positives Spielerlebnis für die ehrlichen Nutzer erreichen, welches die meisten von Euch sind.
Seit einer ganzen Weile haben wir nun ausschließlich im Hintergrund gearbeitet und keinerlei Informationen zu diesem Thema veröffentlicht, um sicher zu gehen, dass die Hersteller der Bots so wenig wie möglich über unsere Maßnahmen und Methodik erfahren. Und obwohl wir ständig an unseren Verschlüsselungsmethoden gearbeitet haben, um die Bots aus dem Spiel zu halten, sind wir zu der Erkenntnis gelangt, dass eine ganzheitliche Lösung des Problems nur in Zusammenarbeit und mit dem Verständnis der Community gelingen kann.
Aus diesem Grund möchten wir euch hiermit mitteilen, dass wir derzeit an einem wichtigen Update arbeiten, dass sowohl die Erkennung, als auch die Bestrafung dieser Nutzer verändert. Wir glauben, dass dies die Anzahl der Bots im Spiel deutlich senken wird. Dies ist ein wichtiger Schritt in die richtige Richtung, dennoch sind wir der Meinung, dass wir uns als Entwicklerteam zusammen mit der Community deutlicher gegen die Benutzung von Bots aussprechen müssen.
Zum Abschluss sei noch gesagt, dass wir große Pläne für DarkOrbit haben, uns aber über die Bedeutung der Bot-Problematik bewusst sind und sie deshalb auch von mehreren Fronten gleichzeitig bekämpfen wollen.
