Please be sure to keep your account safe at all times by never giving out your information to anyone! (our staff will never ask for your account information in game). Also never use third party hack programs with our game, they may contain spyware or viruses. Anyone found to be using hacks of any kind will be banned permanently!
Note:
If you get any client errors then you most likely will need to reinstall a new copy of the client. Due to amount of users downloading the client you may also want to try using our bittorrent option for much faster download speeds!

Common Solutions and workarounds for Cross Fire
Welcome to the Cross Fire Common Solutions thread.
These are the most common solutions to many of the issues that people have while installing and playing the game. Please try as many of these first as you can before posting your problem in the forums.
Please review and try these solutions before attempting to post your reports to the Tech Support people/forums.
* Reboot your computer.
The number one solution. Should always be performed after any error.
* Perform a Clean Boot of the computer
Perform a clean boot of your computer to make sure that nothing else is interfering with the game. For more information on how to perform a clean boot please check here.

* Uninstall and Reinstall Cross Fire using the following proper method.
o Uninstall the game via the control panel and/or uninstaller.
o Delete the two default CF Folders that are left on your drive. located in 'Program Files/SubaGames/CrossFire/' and the other is in 'Documents/Cross Fire/'
o Download a fresh copy of the game from the site and install it.
o Secondary Solution to the install. Choose a new directory/subpath/drive when installing the game.
* Make sure you turn your anti-virus and spyware programs OFF.
Some free virus and spyware checkers run into conflicts with Game Guard and Cross Fire. They can also hog system resources when scanning. It's best to have them turned off while playing.
* Make sure that your firewall is letting the files “patcher_cf.exe”, “CF_G4box.exe” and “crossfire.exe” are all being let full access to the internet.
* Go to the game installation folder and delete the /GameGuard/ folder. Try starting the game.
* Go to the game installation folder and delete the “version.ini” file. Try starting the game.
* Uninstall your video card and reinstall it. Make sure all the drivers are up to date.
Always be sure to follow the instructions that come with your video card when updating the drivers. Visit the video card's company website for additional information on how to install your video card.
* Make sure your DirectX is up to date.
* Make sure you have the latest sound card drivers for your sound card.
* Make sure to install the Microsoft.net framework 2.0+

* Launch the 'patcher_cf.exe' manually.
* Try playing the game on another computer or another account. Note the differences in setup of each computer.
* Try running "CF_G4box.exe" and “crossfire.exe” in compatibility mode and/or in administrator mode.
Right click on the icon and go into properties. Click on the compatibility tab. Click "run in compatibility mode for Windows XP SP2"
Keyboard fixes.
Please make sure your keyboard is set to US English. There is no current support for other languages.
Instructions for Windows Vista
1. Click Start and then Control Panel
2. In Control Panel, if you are in Classic View, click on Control Panel Home (top left corner)
3. Open Clock, Language, and Region
4. Click on Regional and Language Options.
5. Click the Keyboards and Languages tab and then click Change keyboards.
6. Under Installed services, click Add.
7. In the Add Input Language dialog box, select the keyboard layout you would like to add from the list available and click OK.
8. The keyboard layout you added will be included in the list. To set the new layout as your default, select it from the list. Click OK to save your changes
9. You can switch between different input languages (= keyboard languages) by clicking on the Language Bar button or by pressing the Alt + Shift keys
Instructions for Windows XP
1. Click Start and then Control Panel
2. In Control Panel, if you are in Category View, click on Switch to Classic View (top left corner)
3. Open Regional and Language Options.
4. Click on the Languages tab.
5. Under Text services and input languages, click on the Details button.
6. Under Installed services, click Add.
7. In the Add Input Language dialog box, choose the input language and keyboard layout or Input Method Editor (IME) you want to add.
8. Click OK twice. You should now see a language indicator in the System Tray (located at bottom right hand corner of the desktop by default). You can switch between different input languages (= keyboard languages) by pressing the Alt + Shift keys
If a language does not appear in the Input language list, the fonts for that language might not be installed. If that is the case, follow the instructions below.
Add language support
1. Click Start and then Control Panel
2. In Control Panel, if you are in Category View, click on Switch to Classic View
3. Open Regional and Language Options in Control Panel.
4. Click on the Languages tab.
5. Under Supplemental language support, select the check box beside the applicable language collection
6. Click OK or Apply. You will prompted to insert the Windows CD-ROM or point to a network location where the files are located. After the files are installed, you must restart your computer.
Game Guard Issues:
Please be sure to allow GameGuard across your firewall, the GameGuard.des and GameMon.des files must both be allowed online. To test out if this is the issue just turn off all your firewalls included Windows Firewall. Then run the game to see if you get the same error.
Gameguard has been falsified.
A virus has destroyed a part or all of GameGuard. Please scan your computer to find the virus and then disable the scanner during the installation of a new copy of Cross Fire.
Game Guard Error Codes (Taken from the GG website):
* Error 110
Nprotect has already been loaded, hit alt+ctrl+del or ctrl+shift+esc to open the task manager, open processes and end process of trose.exe and GameMon.des.
* Error 112
Please be sure your PC is free of viruses, and that sufficient memory is available. You may wish to make sure your virus scanning program is up-to-date and functioning properly, and that you do not have too many other open programs.
* Error 114
Initialization error 114, this may be caused by a variety of issues. Try the following System restart(rebooting), Update Windows and get the Windows Security Updates, Collisions with other programs could also be a factor make sure all background programs that are not needed are off (some firewall or protection programs may cause this as well), or this might be caused by Spyware/Virus at which point you need to deal with those first before the game will work properly.
* Error 115
Game has been executed multiple times, or GameGuard is already running. Close the game and restart.
* Error 120, 124, 141, 142, 150, 153
Your installation of NProtect is either incomplete or damaged. Please delete the GameGuard folder and repatch Cross Fire, or try clicking on the [Check Files] button.
* Error 155
This means that you have a serious virus or Hard disk corruption. Try restoring it via

* Error 170
Delete the GameGuard folder and run the patch program again.
* Error 230
The other fix is to just uninstall MS completely and reinstall it.
* Error 340
1. Click on Start
2. Click on run
3. Type c:/windows/system32/drivers/etc and click ok
4. Delete ''Hosts'' file.
* Error 350
The NProtect patcher was cancelled. Restart Cross Fire.
* Error 360
Be sure that your firewall is allowing Cross FIre or delete the GameGuard folder and run the patch program again.
* Error 361
Check if you are authorized to use Internet and check if your Internet is working right or not. If that doesn't work just re-Download Game guard.
* Error 380
Hosts file is incorrect: go to C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc and open the hosts file with notepad. make sure to delete from the list there anything with no "#" in front of the line and that has anything with the name GameGuard in it in any variation. In fact the only 2 entries that are commonly there are "127.0.0.1 localhost" and "::1 localhost" if only those two are present then you should be ok. (For vista users make sure you open the hosts file by right clicking on the file and selecting "run as administrator" to make sure you can save.)

* ATI Tray Tools
* AutoHotkey - (Created hotkeys do not work)
* AVG Anti-Virus - Making many of the tray tool components report error. Possibly already unblocked - WORKS WITH AVG VS update!
* cFosSpeed - Detected as a game hack if "Traffic Shaping" is turned on
* Cheat Engine - Some strings and blocks of codes are detected, up to a buffer size of 512, so the names of some things can be changed to evade detection. Usually referred to as "Undetected Cheat Engine" (UCE) when it is not detected by nProtect GameGuard.
* Daemon Tools
* Eclipse - Does not start while GameGuard is running; works if it is already running on GameGuard initialization
* F-Secure Blacklight - Renders software broken; unable to scan for rootkits
* Filezilla - (Reason unknown) Causes the software to crash. Tried and tested on XP (works)
* Freenet - Closes Freenet node without warning.
* Game Servers Client - Works if loaded after game.
* Google Chrome - Prevents the browser from working. Tried and tested on XP (works)
* Hacker Defender - Prevents game from starting and asks user if removal of program is okay.
* Logitech G-series Keyboard Profiler (Profiler is required to use G-keys and any features) This software is no longer blocked.
* Motherboard Monitor - (Reason unknown) Causes the software to crash
* NetLimiter - Detected as a game hack, even if you stop the service and kill the process
* Ollydbg
* Outpost Firewall Pro
* PIX
* Razer - Mouse drivers (mouse buttons mapped to keys will not function, scrollwheel ceases to function). Note: Razer copperhead is working as it should with correct keymapping
* Steam (content delivery) - Launching game through Steam, GameGuard reports Steam as a "Game Hack" and shuts down the game) - Tested on XP (works)
* SpeedFan - (Reason unknown) Core2 sensors report -27 degrees Celsius, Voltage and RPM drop to 0 when game is launched
* The Core Media Player
* Tsearch
* Almost all VNC servers, such as RealVNC (does not block or shut down, but disables input)
* Xpadder
* Zboard Z-Engine
* Memory Hacking Software by L. Spiro
* LCD smartie - LCD does not work
Downloading pop up Problem
To solve the pop up browser window that says it is downloading an html file please close out cross fire and reboot your computer.
Game Freeze or black screen while playing temporary fix.
Try going into the task manager by hitting 'Ctrl + Alt + Delete'. Then close out of it. Alt-Tabbing in and out of the game might also work.
Drastic Solution
If you attempt to run Cross Fire and it works create a system restore point. If you encounter any errors after playing try restoring the computer back to the point when it was working.
Common Fix to Game Guard errors.
* Please note that Game Guard is usually always changing so keep checking back for new updates to GG to fix your problem if you still can't fix it via solutions from this thread.
* Also note we can not fully condone editing the registry. Be aware that the registry is a critical function of the computer and changes could result in the failure of the system.
Please note that these steps will need to be repeated every single time the game crashes or you exit/restart the game.
1) Create a simple batch file with the following information in it:
How To: Right-click on your desktop, select "new" followed by Text Document and copy/paste the below text. After you have copied the data below into the blank document, click on the "File" tab and select "Save As". Now before you save it, you will need to change the "Save as type" from ".txt" to "All Files" then in the box above that, type "gameguard-delete.bat" and save it. You may now execute the batch file at your convenience when the game fails to start.

del Drive_Letter:\WINDOWS\system32\nppt9x.vxd
Note: *Be sure to edit "Drive_Letter" with your default hard drive which Windows is installed on IE: C:\ or D:\ or E:\ (etc)*
2) Delete the following registry keys (yes this needs to be repeated every time too, sadly):

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\N PPTNT2
Note:*The npggsvc registry keys will always be re-created upon launching GameGuard, however the NPPTNT2 registry keys may not always be re-created and therefore if you do not find it, don't worry about it.*
3) Make sure that all Anti-Virus software protection including Anti-Spyware protection is -DISABLED-.
4) Run the game and if it does crash, just CTRL+ALT+DEL and "End Task" the game when Task Manager pops up.
5) Repeat steps 1, 2, 4 (as 3 is already performed) until it works accordingly.
Please remember that this is only a temporary fix until I can fully discover why it is behaving this way. I attempted to read the core dump files that the client creates but haven't gathered enough sufficient information to come to a proper resolution/fix.
If this does not work for you, then I apologize but this is the only thing that is working for me and believe me, I've tried so many things the past week and a half where most people would just 'cry' about it and pull their hair out or even move on but I suppose I'm just that stubborn at the thought of being 'defeated' by some script and therefore will never give up until I find a real proper resolution.

If you are operating from Windows XP, please follow the instructions below:
1) Click on Start > Run; type: cmd [Enter]
2) In the Command Prompt window, type: ipconfig /flushdns [Enter]
3) Type exit and attempt to play/connect to the game again.
If you are operating from Windows Vista, please follow instructions below (If you do not have the same setup above):
1) Press CTRL+ALT+DEL (Task Manager will now open), click on the Applications tab and select "New Task..." at the bottom.
2) In the pop-up box, type: cmd and click Ok or simply press [Enter]
3) In the Command Prompt window, type: ipconfig /flushdns [Enter]
4) Type exit and attempt to play/connect to the game again.

New 1280 x 800 widescreen resolution problem.
Some of our users have not been able to enable the new widescreen mode in CF (July 17th update).
This fix has been submitted by rune101rune:
To those of you who cannot select the 1280x800 (wide) resolution and have Nvidia cards (most likely works for ATI too) and Windows Vista here is how to fix it. Go to control panel then go to System and Maintenance then scroll down until you see Nvidia Control Panel click it, then on the left side clock "manage custom resolutions", click create. Then in the Horizontal Desktop Pixels slot put 1280, then in the Vertical Desktop Pixels put 800 and click test to see if your monitor will work at that resolution. Then open Crossfire and now you should be able to select the resolution of 1280x800. Hope this works for everyone having the problem and enjoy.
You may also want to check your video card drivers and make sure they are up to date, also if your specific monitor needs any special drivers to make sure they are installed as well.
