What various ways THQ uses to catch bots?
And what precautions should we take to prevent it? Kindly explain for all types of botting such as leveling and mining.
Thanks

No i mean in terms of computing/programming/networking etc. Does it scan the memory for dll hookup or something like that. One bot i was mining with got jailed. So I am very much intersted in knowing what all things THQ can see. I want to put in the forum's item.dat file. But if THQ can read it, it might start sending my every character to bot jail.

Back when mining was good, and right after they made the botjail to cost 1db to get out, a GM or PM (can't recall who) went around pk'ing people in the mines to check for cotobo use. It was total chaos in the bot jail the next day because at the time you could still pk there, and all the online market accounts of the botters got sent there too.
Anyway, I'm unaware of any method to catch cheaters like what you speak of. As far as I know, either a GM/PM sees you do it, or another player gathers sufficient proof and reports you.

Okies.. could you clarify " GM/PM sees you do it" .. how do they see it ? you mean they see your character in mine or you are talking in terms of memory scan or dll hook up identification etc. .. can THQ server specifically detect bot behaviour.. Because if you drop items when you are jumping, the server knows that you are a bot. this is one method of bot detection. I wanted to know the other methods. so that we can set our bots accordingly. Too bad i was not watching my monitor when my bot got jailed. otherwise i would have gotten an idea if some GM/PM character jumped by or they detected a bot based on its actions. [ in mine the bot doesnt drop ores jumping though. ] one thing i surely noticed was that I had 2 scrolls to pc in my inventory.. when i came back and bot was in jail, i saw that one scroll was missing.. and none of the ores had dropped.. so i am sure that bot didnt get pked.. so may be very fast ore selling to npc could have resulted into server identifying the bot behaviour... if all of us post such cases we will generate a bot detection pattern of our own community and will be able to avoid it.. currently i am mining on dragon server with disconnect on finding gem mode .. so that this second mining character doesnt run to pc to deposit the gem or sell ores and get caught again !!

For sure if they observe your character botting then you are caught. What happened on my server was they went around pking and flashing looking for people who disconnect automatically, and all those were jailed. Also, someone could take a video of you botting and send it in. If they use memory scan or dll hook like you mention, I'm unaware of it.

okies.. also, as you say in your last sentence about memory scan or dll hook up .. can someone else elaborate more on it ? because if they can scan memory, it could be matter of time before they start scanning CO folder for edited itemtype.dat files and we might just find our main characters in bot jail .. elaborate on both !!

Append on Mar 5 2007, 20:55
Also, when my bot got jailed yesterday, i was using SV. What i mean to say is that there is no option of disconnect on blinking name option there.. no doubt your point is good because it could be an option in bot which you are using.. but there is also something else being used as TQH for detection !! together we need to find it out and NAIL IT !! we are all here for that !! :P

Append on Mar 5 2007, 21:38
hmm .. interesting .. there is a character called jacke .. who is wandering mines .. there is no one else other than me and that char in the mines .. it is roaming the mine .. when i said "no pk plz" it just said i am not a pker.. most probably it could be a GM or PM wandrering the mines to watch afk miner behavior ..its not waiting near me to watch though .. may be because i talked to it, it knows i am not afk botting .. though i am botting atm.

If they could scan the computer for edited files they would've done it already. There's probably a legal issue with doing so.
I recommend get DCTool (what I use) or temp-fixed cotobo if u need a disconnector. I don't use SV to mine, and I'm sure that walking back to the mine with a bot looks odd so you probably were observed doing so.
Many people fancy themselves to be the CO Police and go "check for botters" (pk) in the mines. It doesn't mean it's a GM/PM.
