Yes servers are only Windows compatible atm.

No you dont, as long as you are hosting a server from what-so-ever OS, it will work.

Their are different server hosting programs for different OS. One for windows will not work for MAC or Linux which is basically common logic xD

No. Hosting a conquer server needs windows especially if you're using C#. Currently there is only one server that has the capabilities to even try to run on a linux server and that would be QO. C# is a windows language and must be run from windows.

You could change the language it was made in, its just that it would take a while.

The answer to your question is that you can use any operating system to host a server, just not a CO server.
