Area Before Met Zone

What is the point of that area on the map before you talk to OldExplorer to get into Met Zone?

There are portals on the map leading to other places, check top right corner...

i think TQ were going to put in a few more monsters but got bored

oh well no-one will notice a big-*** empty map, throw a few portals on it that'll keep em entertained oh and split the map in half!! to pee people off, then a tiny bridge!! aghhhh

1) its called adventure zone, the point is to find things, thus big empty maps.
