Dhaedalida: protect your Windows applications from reverse engineering
Hello everyone,
If you are looking for a cheaper alternative to
Themida /
VMProtect,
Dhaedalida is your tool.
Dhaedalida, is a commercial software protector for Windows. It hardens 32-bit and 64-bit .exe and .dll files against reverse engineering, cracking and tampering, using code virtualization, string encryption and a self-defending packer. There is a free demo that works on your own binaries, with no account and no time limit, so you can judge the real output yourself before spending anything.
Code virtualization
Selected functions are rebuilt as a self-contained virtual machine embedded in your executable. The original x86/x64 instructions no longer exist in the file, so there is nothing left for a disassembler to recover.
- Function-level protection: virtualize the license checks, crypto and core algorithms that matter, while the rest of the application runs at native speed.
- Works on executables and DLLs. The entry point itself can be a protection target.
- The VM instruction set is generated uniquely for every build: no two protected builds are alike, and there is no shared static signature to match against.
- Zero behavioral change: the protected program does exactly what the original did.
String encryption
String literals used by protected functions are stored encrypted at rest and decrypted only for a moment, inside the VM, at the instant they are used. A strings-style scan of the protected file reveals no plaintext messages, URLs or keys. Each string gets its own key, and both ANSI and wide (UTF-16) strings are supported.
Built-in obfuscation
Every virtualized function is automatically strengthened with additional layers, on by default with adjustable complexity:
- Encrypted constants
- Anti-disassembly hardening that defeats linear-sweep disassemblers
- Randomized internal structure, shuffled per build
- Decoy operations and opaque predicates
- Non-linear control flow and anti-single-step protection
Application packer (Pro edition)
The packer compresses and encrypts the entire application behind a self-unpacking loader: on disk the shipped file contains no readable code or data, and it restores in memory at launch. It protects the whole program, not just the virtualized functions, usually produces a smaller shipped file, and can also be used on its own without virtualization.
And the protection protects itself: the unpacking loader is virtualized with the same per-build VM engine as your own functions, so there is no readable version of the protection mechanism to study.
Anti-analysis suite (Pro edition)
Composable hardening layers you enable per build, so a patched or debugged binary refuses to run:
- Import protection (hides the application's Windows API references)
- Anti-debugging
- Anti-VM (VMware, Hyper-V, VirtualBox)
- Anti-monitoring and anti-sandbox
- Integrity checks / anti-tamper
- Anti-dump (blocks reconstructing a usable copy from process memory; advanced, off by default)
Developer workflow
- Desktop app: open your .exe or .dll, review the function list, tick the protections, click Protect. You get a hardened yourapp.protected.exe and a live log.
- Marker SDK: wrap sensitive code in VMStart()/VMEnd() markers, with bindings for C, C++, Rust, Go, Delphi and more. The markers are harmless no-ops in your normal builds, and marked functions are detected with or without a PDB, even in stripped release builds.
- CLI for CI: automate the same protection profile in your build pipeline, taking targets from a list file, hundreds of functions in one run.
Platform support
- Protects Windows 32-bit and 64-bit .exe and .dll files (PE32 and PE32+).
- Any language that compiles to native x86/x64 code. .NET and other managed runtimes are out of scope.
- Code signing is fully supported: protect first, sign last.
- The protector itself runs on Windows 10/11 (64-bit); Windows Server 2019/2022 supported. No installer and no administrator rights needed.
Editions and prices
Basic, the core virtualization engine:
- Code virtualization with adjustable complexity, VM section renaming, string encryption, and any target including the entry point.
- Developer license €159, company license €359.
- Optional renewal after the first year: €49 / €99.
Pro, everything in Basic plus the full application packer suite (compression, import protection, anti-debugging, anti-VM, anti-monitor, anti-tamper, anti-sandbox, anti-dump):
- Developer license €199, company license €459.
- Optional renewal after the first year: €69 / €139.
Ultimate, everything in Pro plus an integrated licensing system: coming soon, pricing will be announced at release.
How the licensing works:
- A developer license covers a single developer (an independent individual, or a company with just one software developer). A company license is registered to the organization and covers the whole team.
- Either way: unlimited protected products, unlimited distributed copies. Buy once, ship as much as you like.
- Every purchase includes 12 months of updates and email support. After that, the protector and everything you have protected keep working; renewing only extends the updates.
Launch offer: the first 25 customers get 25% off every license, applied automatically at checkout, nothing to type. Every purchase is covered by a 14-day money-back guarantee. Prices exclude VAT/sales tax, which is calculated at checkout by our merchant of record (Paddle).
Free demo
The current demo build is 1.2.0.0, a 67 MB portable folder: no installer, no account, no license file. It is feature-limited, not time-limited. It exposes the core VM engine, so you can virtualize real functions in your own builds and inspect the protected output, but it does not include the packer, string encryption or the anti-analysis suite, and binaries protected with the demo show a brief splash screen identifying the Demo edition. It never expires.
A note on expectations
No protector makes software unbreakable, and I won't claim otherwise. What good protection does is raise the cost of an attack, turning an afternoon with a disassembler into weeks of skilled effort. That is the goal Dhaedalida is built and updated around.
