[How-To] Screw Local MySQL Hosting!

Hello guys, its me Yuki.

I just found a neat provider for remote Database hosting.

It lets you Host MySQL Databases for free, wich you can use for your server. Unlike most free providers, this one supports remote connections. Means eg. 000Webhost cant be used to host a Database for your Server while can be used!
  • Whats Remote Hosting?
    - Remote Database Hosting means you can host a MySQL database and connect to it wherever you are. Most providers BLOCK such access for Security reasons.
  • I dont see the Point of using this
    - I do. You can set up tools wich eg. insert monsters or Npcs, and give them to your staff so they can work together with you, or give GM/PM access to the Accunt/Char DB so they can handle issues/bans using a tool instead of Phpmyadmin
  • Is it free?
    - Totally. 100% Free, but it says its made for testing and not for serious use.
  • What are the limitations?
    - Database size cant be bigger than 2 MB while upload, it can grow up to 16 MB while use.
  • How fast is that system?
    - Well... its not the fastest, but hey its free. And the speed is decent.

What you have to do is add the MySQL data to your source and you are ready to go.
No more local hosting, More free Ram, less CPU usage... but a bit slower throughput.

Fair enough.

Hopefully this helps some of you, i was searchin such **** for ages and just found it by accident xD

anyway.... peace,

Yuki out.

Im sorry, but your suggesting that people should ditch local hosting of their database in order to use a database hosted on the otherside of the planet because you personally were unable to setup a simple front end for people on your team to do database work?

That's your linchpin argument for adding quite a significant amount of latency in between your database and server?

What the hell were you thinking?

On top of all that 90% of free MySQL hosts out there restrict the use of gaming databases for the reason that they get accessed way to much. Did not even look into it but read the fine print called Terms of Use/Service i would be willing to bet it's there.

By registering for a db4free.net account you agree that:

db4free.net is a testing environment
db4free.net is not suitable for production
if you decide to use your db4free.net database in production despite the warnings, you do that at your own risk (very frequent backups are highly recommended)
data loss and outages can happen at any time (any complaints about that will likely be ignored)
the db4free.net team is not granting any warranty or liability of any kind
the db4free.net team reserves the right to delete databases and/or accounts at any time without notice
it is up to you to get the latest information from the Forum and the db4free.net blog

No game db prohibition. Though I seriously don`t see the point of this thread.

Your seriously going to praise him for essentially making your server perform worse?

I have a reason to why this is a terrible idea.
If you have your database in the local network of your server, it STAYS there.
If you have your database on a website, people can use programs to guess passwords and usernames to hack into it / slow it down even more.

It does if the host is an idiot and doesn't mess with privileges.
