If you want to learn Java, then I suggest starting here.

You can omit a few architectures such as JavaBeans, RMI, Reflection, etc., but Collections, Networking, JDBC, Essential Java Classes, and everything else in the Getting Started learning trail is probably a necessity if you want to learn the language and use it for making bots.

If you want to use excessive native hooking in your bots, then it may not be worth your time to use Java.

I have used and would recommend NetBeans, Eclipse, and IntelliJ IDEA (Community Edition). I have used and would not recommend JCreator or BlueJ; they're not feasible for code productivity, IMHO.

Feel free to ask any other questions.

JCreator is fine, It's just not good for object oriented programming.
NetBeans would probably be your best bet.
GUI creation is really easy, and they always come out very clean.

For tutorials and info, I'd just go to the java forums Sun has.
You will find lots of info there, links to outside tutorials, recommendations on books you should buy(or download) etc etc...

If you plan on making a bot for Conquer I would NOT recommend you start with java.
Java is nice for proxies, it does not have much use for memory modifications, hooking, or dll injection.

I personally would recommend you start learning cpp, but if cpp is too hard try out C#.
These languages would be better to start out with just due to the fact that reading and writing to memory is so easy to do, and it's a great starting point in the world of bot creation.

Proxies are a more difficult subject, there are many steps you have to take to get it logging into the game, and I would call a proxy a "long-term goal" for a beginner programmer.

That makes absolutely no sense, your ability to OOP in Java relies on your ability to effectively write your code in such a matter that it adheres to OOP standards. It does not rely on your IDE.

Most users at the Oracle Forums would tell you code generation, IDE's, and GUI editors are not the way to go when first starting out with the language.

id have to disagree with the ide thing, to understand the language FULLY id recommend not using an ide, but for beginners they can prove to be very handy as they help you find keywords that otherwise you might have to spend ages googling for

use Eclipse as a general IDE. Don't get any form editors like netbeans until you can write a GUI from scratch, use it as a time saver and not because you don't know what your doing.

From what it sounds like he doesn't know a **** thing about programming.
If he starts out with a console he'll hate it, and give up.

I personally started in a console, but the majority of people like to actually see some sexy gui or else they lose interest quick (beginners anyways)
