If you know C++ then you can easily write your own source.
There's a difference between learning something and grasping a few basic concepts. Not trying to be too insulting here just coming on here talking about how great bins are and then saying "pfft you can't judge me for them cause I know C++" is a little ridiculous...
A proper source can be anything you make of it. They require much more work than binaries (cause you actually have to code stuff vs just like... "omg I placed an npc! I'm pro coder!") but the work is worth it cause in the long run you have something you can fix/change as you want. Binaries simply cannot compare to a source because you don't have any full control over things.
For reference I offer... Project Manifest ^^. Even in it's base released version it's hella better than binaries will ever be as we currently have them.
