actually... on old patches, after the client connects , it sends the auth info packet, use this... if an auth packet doesnt come to the server in the next 2 seconds(too bad for laggers) you send the seedpacket. after that you just read the version of the client from the auth packet starting from server's name offsets.
voila, problem fixed
