As dragon says: If you aren't willing to do the work (and I mean 90+ percent of it) then you shouldn't be thinking of making your own server.
If you have something to offer (website design skills, coding, scripting, ideas, hosting, etc) then you can probably find an existing project who can make use of your skills... but other then that you are probably out of luck.
