I didn't say delete them.
I said sticky threads.
It's a cleaner solution with far less effort for moderators to maintain.

Anyways, my point was, we should be finding a solution that's easier on our moderators as well as our members. Stickying threads is a simple solution with very little effort. Deleting threads (which I don't recommend doing) or moving threads to a "dead" section is a lot of verification work. I agree it's a solution, and I'm willing to compromise on that, but I just want to make it known that it could be far simpler to take my original suggestion. As long as that's taken into consideration while we more forward with the dead section, that's fine with me.

I don't understand why someone just doesn't create an all in one thread advertising the most popular and well maintained servers. If the dead threads are bringing in traffic, leave em. Have server owners go through a consultation of his/her features/patch/rates/etc. Maybe post some server reviews from the same thread in spoilers under. While you may think bias would be a problem, I think we can all come to the same conclusion on which servers are the best as of now.

There should not be any self opinion given in the thread, only what players post. That defeats the biased problem and doesn't give the thread a server in which the OP thinks is clearly better.

Verifying if servers are still online or not. Going to the website and trying to gain visibility of their server's status (which is not always visible). I can see something like that getting backed up. There's a plethora of spam servers which will need to go through that type of verification work, while there's a very small handful of servers that would meet sticky requirements per year.

That would not help at all, they would just make the text as static to show always online.

Could it be that you are overestimating those threads? I mean this is not The Black Market with hundreds of new threads a day. Also that verification work you describe is usually a matter of seconds using googles site: command. And last but not least there are also users which are able to report servers which aren't online anymore.

As said in your ticket, there is a limited amount of space for stickies. What happens when the small handful of servers keeps increasing?

You guys need to be made aware of this, I am sick to death of Spirited talking down to everyone here, like he is the smartest person around. You guys need to get into your head he is a fake. Back on topic.

The best way to authorise servers would be to have a 2 week wait period after submission here to verify if the server is still online or not. Then have someone test all the servers out once or twice a month to verify the availability. If the server is offline & no website was found, it should get moved or a warning, after 2 warnings perhaps then it gets put into a subforum or removed from sticky (wichever you guys decide todo).

Ultimation, I'm just throwing around suggestions. There's nothing concrete about anything I'm saying. That's why we started a discussion on this matter - it shouldn't be and isn't my say in what's best for the section. And even if epvp cared about my board of 20 or so people, there's no rule against members of the community doing that. I don't even run the board, Michael does. Now, please stop isolating my posts. I have no interest in arguing with you.

Regarding the amount of stickied threads, we've never had more than 3-4 active servers like that since our player community isn't large enough. We can always cross that bridge when it comes, but I doubt that day would come. It's really just to fight against these copy-paste servers from outside our board, purposed for taking money from our members. I understand it's limited space, but I really don't think that would ever be a problem.

My goal is to find the easiest solution for our moderators. I know Chris won't be a moderator forever, and the likelihood that a moderator from another section will have to step in similarly to Arby is very high. They might not have the same understanding that we do about a system like this, while stickying threads based on section rules would be intuitive and less frequent. That's my perspective on the situation. It's the easiest solution for our members looking for a server, easiest solution for our developers looking to stand out more, easiest solution for our moderators maintaining that section, and easiest solution for our administrators since no additional work is required. My solution seems to scale better than yours.
