Hello all! I have a problem trying to edit source COV2, but I can not ... I have Microsoft Visual C # 2008 Express Edition and it does not give you anything ;( Please help...

I installed everything, only how to edit the file. Cs and enter it on the server does not work

open the one that is like .csproj should be coserverproject.csproj or something then on the right you see the file you want to edit, edit it press F6 then F5

That is why you notice any questions for support posted askin about the source he ignores/doesn't answer anyone because he didn't make the source and couldn't code if his life depended on it so how could he answer anyone about the problems within it?

If i were you sasuke i would highlight the cov2 source with left click then hit delete key and save yourself alot of time because this source is utterly useless just like the person that released it.

geez, quit the whining about Xmasterrrr releasing a source that isn't his...we know that by now...

Wether he released it or not, its still one of the best sources to start working with if you are determined to learn stuff about coding in important stuff like small events or custom NPCs or whatever.

The source doesn't suck, its a good source, it just needs your own little twist to make it fit your server's needs. I dont mind if u know...i'm using it for my server and my players love the source, more than the previous LOTF sources i've used.

Instead of using this thread to flame XMasterrrr, try to help the guy that had the problem in the first **** place.


Editing the source...

You'll have to know how a C# project is built...its one project with several "pages" that contain the code, these "pages" are the *.cs files.
To edit the source of your server, open the *.csproj file (C-Sharp Project File). Now on your right hand you see the Solution List, which contains all those "pages" that have the coding in it. Double-click the page you wish to edit...and edit it.

I found that most of the basic stuff a server admin wishes to edit at first is located in Client.cs, this would be the welcome messages and the way NPCs interact with players and execute commands depending on the response of the player.

When you have edited what you wanted to edit, hit F6 and then F5.

Compiles files are saved in the folder /bin/Release

Copy these files into the folder /bin/Debug and launch your server normally.


Ok, i know...maybe its not a clear guide but its based off my personal C# Experience, and i'm not one of the pro coders here on e*pvp..but the least i can do is share what i DO know

- we don't know what he try to do
- we don't know the system he uses
- we know he has a problem thats all
- we know he has c# express edition
for the rest what do we know?

like i said befor he has to explain his probem with what he try to do.

and coV2 "source" is one of the worst sources here - it is a big copy past from the whole forum. if you really wanna learn to work with c# for a conquer online server you'll be better off to use a clean source like LOTF / powersource or the one released by inf.
if you want to host and only host just take the tq binaries

We all have to start somewhere, epvp is a community where everyone is welcome and is allowed to ask for help, he did say he had problems editing the source to his liking and i personally think that helping people isn't bad in ANY way.

I know CoV2 isn't the best source to host a server but i don't care if his server fails...i just help him with what he asked about. So you're saying what? I shouldn't have helped him? Since when is helping people a bad thing?

If you never ever worked with C# before and don't know **** about conquer servers you'd love to be helped too, wouldn't you? I know i would....

i do agree with you about being welcome and so on but i asked him to explain his problem and he didn't really explain did he?
he said he installed everything and what is that everything? honestly i can't guess what he did on his computer. aswell that not every source is compilled to work on vista. sometimes you will even have problems recompilling the source becaus you don't have the mysql connectors.
so i'm not against helping and niether agains ppl trying to learn or ask help but in order to help we should get more info ahout the problem

what would i do if i never worked with c# express edition?
you see when you don't know a program and there functions, usualy there is a HELP button on the menu. if you press that you can get info about how and what.

now.
- you need the source fully extracted
- you need c# express edition (free) or an other program thats able to recompil the source
- you need a server "mysql server" or a full packet like "appserver"
-- ones you have all that you can try to start.
-install the server and follow one of the existing tutorials here on the forum on how to make a server
- to edit the source
open the project file "COServerProject.csproj". if its the first time he will ask you some stuff.
on a normal visual you'll see solution explorer at your right side
in that explorer you'll find all the .cs files.
open one of them or if you know what your are looking for press ctrl+f
when you do ctrl+f you'll see some options that allow you to inprouver the search methode.
know that every time you edit something its most likely that you rebuild the project
you can do that by the build option in the menu or by pressing f5 or f6 if i'm not wrong.

Actually it isn't it is unstable and coded wrong and crashes all the time so how can it be a good one to start off with ?? The only thing you can learn from this source is how to not code properly and anything you add to it will be done improperly by example of anything you learn from within it and even if you do add "good" proper code to it it won't matter because the core of it is garbage and the more code you add to it the faster it crashes it is just sloppy c# ask anyone that has any experience with c sharp they will tell you this source is like building a house on quicksand.

Plus nobody will offer any support for it because it was re released by a idiot that can't help anyone with it nor does anyone else want to offer help for it because of who it is that released it.

So if your wanting to use the arguement that it is something to learn from it is a very bad example..If people want to learn they should download the stickied source released by hybrid, it may not be complete but at least the code within it is done properly and anything added to it in that thread by other users contributing are also adding proper code to it for others to learn the right way to do do things.


Like i said xmasterrr is a complete tool as you can see by his reply to me all he can do is reply with " your a idiot" lol because he knows he can't even do a hello world in c# and didn't code 1 byte in this source at all just renamed kinshico to cov2 and released it again.

If you want to use the real release then at least use kinshi 2.0 source which is basically exact same thing and he might actually help you with the problems your having with it.
