About the advertising rule

Hey,I just saw the new advertising rule.
Actually,I dont like it,for a serveral reasons.
Heres my points of view

Why should we advertise an cheat/hacking site ,on our privateserver website? This will lead to more people know about it,and might use bugs/hacks/bots on the server. Ofcourse, this isnt a treath to the ultimate good server, such as Qonquer and AcidCO,which have an anti-proxy,but now,im talking for the other servers, the more noobie ones.
Ofcourse,e*pvp is a famous site in the CO2 community, but,as far as I know theres not only members here that play privateservers,am I right?

Also, another thing. We created an Pserver area here on e*pvp, and we are supposed to post :
Guides
Releases

Other stuffs..

But,what will all that end up in? Yeah,a privateserver. Else, there would be noone here,if it wouldnt end up in your own privateserver. But now,you need players on it ,to make your time worth doing it? Then ofcourse, you go on here or ********,and post your privateserver, only for one reason ; to get more players into it. So why , should we privateserver creator, kind of help loyal people,to maybe cheat on our server?

Ah,my opinion ,just cleared my mind, flame or whatever,I really dont care.

Exactly what I was thinking... Why would a private server give a link to hacks and stuff >_>

thats a good point, the rule was mainly created to stop 1-post advertisers in all the pserver forums at epvp, in some sections advertising got out of hand.

In a different point of view, why do you advertise your pserver on a hack/cheat website? Almost any member who joins over epvp is going to cheat on that server sooner or later.

I'm sure we can optimize this rule a little bit to keep it fair for everyone, but at the moment some ppl posting their links without giving something in return.

Im not going to argue or something, dont take this personal, just my opinion and what's on my mind.

Actually,we're not posting our server on the actual hack/cheat area,we're doing it on the p-server.
For example,I only watch the p-server area, nothing else, well, sometimes guide and programming area.
If I started a privateserver,it would'nt fall into my mind to cheat.
Now,back to an silly question,but rather easy answer;
Why do we cheat on actual conquer?

Because we like it? I dont think so
Its because we kind of need to,conquer made the game a real disaster, its better with six words , free to play, pay to win , and thats why we cheat,we dont want to spend our money on some silly game.
But,why cheat on a privateserver,or wait, why do we even move to a privateserver from original ConquerOnline? Yes,because we like the pserver better, because its easier, and we dont have to cheat there.
Ofcourse, there are people that cheat on pservers too,I dont blame them.
But ,the reason for this thread,is because I dont like to advertise a cheat/hack forum,to someone on my privateserver, and then,if I don't,I get warnings for not advertising on their site..

Mmh,well, admins words is our law people, now lets listen to 'em.

Its good to see an active Admin on these forums. Good to know your out there.

Just wanted to throw my opinion into the mix. While I understand why you've instituted this rule, I don't see how it will positively effect the problem your attempting to solve. People will advertise anything they wish, whether they get banned or not. It is the mentality of many people on this forum to become pests as often as possible.

Almost any member who joins over epvp is going to cheat on that server sooner or later.

I completely agree with this. Most people only come here for the cheats.

but at the moment some ppl posting their links without giving something in return

This one I don't agree with. By advertising their server here they are automatically bringing traffic to the website. Even if they post on other forums... God forbid, they still have to direct traffic to here at some point. Also, by people doing "one post" advertising, it is effectively making this a redirection point for people looking for private servers. Think about it like this, if 1 person posts 1 ad, 10 people will join just to click the link. 4 might become active, and ALL 10 will most likely return to see what else if being offered or advertised.

I honestly believe a more effective rule would require a thread created for all advertisements. This will keep posting more organized, and easier to search.

I agree it's a bit of a strange rule, especially since I know epvp already gets truckloads of traffic regardless.

That said, I don't know of any other way to solve your problem either.

If you want you could put up a minimum postcount / activity to allow you to advertise your pserver but that would still be a lot of (fruitless) work for your moderators to check.

In the end I just don't think there's much to gain from conquer's pserver section.

I would have to agree with Lowfyr on this one for several reasons.

Mainly it stops all the 1 post ads for useless lotf and future servers 30 times a day.

@Emme

You say why would you want to post a linking site on your priv server website for a hacking site when ya don't want cheaters on your server well in a way you answered your own question. Why post your priv server on epvp at all if you don't expect cheaters in the first place when you advertise it on a hack site lol ??

Sure you may get alot of hits because there is a huge community of co playerbase here but on the other hand you can just as easily post on xtremetop100 and extremetoprpgs or anywhere else and get more then enough hits to handle the poor stability issues in any of the current public priv servers anyway lol.

And if your server is good and stable it will grow on it's own by word of mouth with very little advertisement at all.

So it makes total sense to me to keep the spam down with all the noobie servers being thrown up all the time using epvp as just a place to register and post 1 time to advertise and get hits on there server.

We don't care about the traffic and also don't require to place the link on a prominent location. There is also no "click requirement" to keep a advertisement listed

Whatever, keep brainstorming this topic, perhaps we can create a better ruleset for this issue.

My take. I think every pserver should link back to epvp anyway, regardless of this rule. You ALL owe some credit to epvp and it's users for the collective information they've shared over the years, without which, you wouldn't even have your servers. It wouldn't be possible to credit everyone individually for that.

I think there's benefit to promoting that you're an epvp member anyway. Your reputation as part of this community is one thing that can seperate your server from the 100s of others that keep spawning up. Think about it, if you have the choice to play a server run by someone who was an active, contributing part of it's development, or one made by generic idiot A who found the LOTF source and inherently thinks they have the expertise to build and maintain it, it's an obvious choice which you'd play.

Secondly, epvp is doing you a huge favour by allowing you to advertise here, for free. You could spend thousands advertising elsewhere and still not generate a fraction of the referrals epvp does. It's only respectful to return the gesture.

I shouldn't need to reiterate about your 'no cheaters' argument being hypocritical. Anyone who wants to play a private server for some reason or another intends to 'cheat'. (why else?). And if someone is intelligent enough to somehow discover your server via a non-epvp advert, I'm pretty sure they'll be able to find cheats for the game, they're far more frequent in search engines. If you really wanna stop cheating in your server, you should probably be assuming that everyone who plays CO already knows of epvp, or could easily find it with generic cheat+co term in google, in which case you need to implement anti-cheat methods into your server anyway. No point in ignoring it because you might get a few honest players.

To be honest... epvp has taught me absolutely nothing about private servers... only people who have influenced me on private servers are Jack and Hybrid... infact its taught me nothing period other than Tane & M's Info on ASM

I'd like to learn from someone good... Only person I've really learned for was some British dude on this random tutorial(Text) when I googled C#. Other than that I've pretty much been on my own. Not saying people haven't helped me... I learned a *few* things from Infamous video tutorials.. Mainly non-managed DLL imports
