TQ Bin or Source?

I heard much about TQ Bins and normal Sources so my question is whats the differece btw. this two Servers...?

I heard, that Sources players max is 80-100 .... Or is there a way to bring that to 400-600

I heard, that TQ bin is forbidden but many times better then normal sources .. nolags more players ...

Binaries use far more resources and therefor you will need a FAR more powerful server to run it (more cost for you). They are good in that everything just... 'works'.

That being said they are

-Illegal. They are the hacked server files from tq which have been fucked around with to work on different patches and adding in new npcs and stuff.

-Limited. You cannot change anything major such as how gameplay works. With a custom source you can change ANYTHING that is controlled by packets (IE: everything that tq can change without needing client edits which you can also do yourself)

-Generic. Everyone is using the same files really so you will have no way to make your server 'better' than others besides adding some new npcs or monsters or w/e (You really can't do much with binaries... all you have is database access unless you're pr0 with assembly code)




Writing your own source means the game play will be exactly how you want.


Sources pro/cons


Pros

-Can run on any client patch you want

-Can edit anything you want

-Use less resources (if done right)

-Can handle large amounts of players and be stable (if done right)

-Coding is fun! </nerd>
Programming can be a life skill which can help you in the real world... lets face it, knowing how to write even basic stuff is one more marketable skill and perhaps something you may decide to end up doing at school (IE: me) or as a career

Cons:

-Public sources suck (except for a few which are basic and need things coded)

-Need to learn coding. You simply cannot hope to run a good server without understanding how your source works.

-Time commitment. Seeing as public sources either suck or need features coded, you're going to spend a lot of time working on your server before you have anything 'good'.

PS: Good sources

Project Manifesto (hybrid's new source). It's fantastic, contains loads of features... you'll need to change the encryption though as well as a few things to log in but it's a VERYYYY nice source

Hybrids basic source (there's a few versions posted... they all are rather basic but it's stable and very well coded)

Immune's source. I personally am not a fan of using binary databases and his coding style differs from how I'd like things but it's also a nice source (and there's a 5180 and 5290+ version posted lol)

Impulse's source. It's a nice basic 5165 example... I've lost a bit of faith in it though as I've been talking to a bunch of people using it or other sources impulse has sold them and they keep running into issues with deadlocks or threads just dropping out... That being said I still consider it a nice, readable example for people looking to make their own source.

But also have one question...

Hybrids basic source (there's a few versions posted... they all are rather basic but it's stable and very well coded)

So this Source can handle allot of players ?
Cuz I dont need a source where I cant have much players ... ;D

And I agree with u that normal sources make allot more fun with coding ...



Bytheway what is Last co, Crazy co or Shadow Co running (TQ bin or Source ) ;D

Fairly sure all of the above are binaries.

most of the crappy top100 servers are bins.

ProjectX = newestcoserver which is one of if not THE least stable base publicly released (tannel gets upset every time I bash what his source has turned into but lets face it... it's far from a stable/well organized source)


They use tq bins cause it lets them have all the game systems working without ever having to do any work and lets them earn money from donations (most of the bin servers I've seen are sad excuses to farm a few hundred->thousand in donations before they eventually die.

Almost all the sources you see here (and when people say 5165) they are talking about newestcoserver. The reason people used it is that it has lots of working game features... it's not very stable though and is absolutely a MESS to try to read through the source code of (things are scattered all over the place and it's rather inefficient)
