Alright, I posted a quick version of this in another guide, and someone thought I should make a whole guide about it, so here we are!
This is for anyone out there who is not in charge of their house, and doesn?t have admin rights on their own computer, which means that they might not be able to do everything they want. (I personally have Windows Live One Care installed, which blocks CO?s connection to the internet, as well as the autopatch).
I do not claim to have figured this out myself, I merely spent four hours searching the internet and finally pieced it all together.
How to get admin rights on your computer!
Note: I am not to be held responsible if you totally screw up your computer by deleting something you shouldn?t, put a load of garbage on your computer that your parents will find, or if you get caught!
And please only use this on your OWN computer!
Make sure to close all programs before you turn off the computer to prevent loss of data.
Now, there are two ways of doing this:
1) The quick way, which is noticeable by anyone with more that 2 brain cells.
2) The long way, which is much harder to find.
Let?s start with number 1 (The Quick Way)
Step 1: Turn off your computer. Don?t restart it.
Step 2: Put one finger over F2. Turn on the computer.
Step 3: Repeatedly press the F2 key until you get to setup. (I am pretty sure this is the key on all Windows versions, but I may be wrong).
Step 4: Congratulations! You are almost there! Use the arrow keys to navigate down to security and hit enter to expand it.
Step 5: Go to admin password.
Step 6: Set it to what you want.
Step 7: Hit Escape to exit setup. Say yes when it prompts you to make sure.
Step 8: There you go! An admin account with a password only you know!
Notes: Anyone who tries to log on to the admin will see that there is a password, and you could get caught, which is why we have?the long way!
I haven?t actually tried this method, as I don?t want to get caught. Please tell me if it doesn?t work.
Number 2 (The Long Way)
Step 1: Turn off your computer. Don?t restart it.
Step 2: Put one finger over F8. Turn on the computer.
Step 3: Repeatedly press the F8 key until the computer beeps each time you press it.
Step 4: Welcome to advanced options! Let?s mosey on down to safe mode using the arrow keys, and select with the enter key.
Step 5: Choose to reboot in safe mode, don?t worry about networking or command prompt.
Step 6: Choose which operating system to start with (probably windows).
Step 7: Don?t worry if your account disappeared. Can you tell what all the remaining users have in common? That?s right! They?re all admins! But wait! Where did that administrator account with no password come from? Why don?t we investigate!
Step 8: Don?t get ahead of yourself. In Safe Mode, most programs don?t work. But the control panel does! Go ahead and open it up.
Step 9: Make an account called temp or whatever you want. Make them a computer administrator, or else they?re worthless.
Step 10: Log off the Administrator to make sure the account is there. If they aren?t, do steps 7-9 again.
Step 11: Assuming your new admin is there, restart the computer (to get out of safe mode).
Step 12: Get on the new account. The computer is yours! Do everything you need to be an admin to do that you want. (For me, it?s allowing CO through the Windows Live firewall).
Step 13: Go onto your normal account to make sure all the programs you allowed are working. We are now halfway there! (I wasn?t joking when I said the long way).
Step 14: Go back to safe mode (steps1-6). When you get onto the Administrator, go back to the control panel.
Step 15: Now, what?s the use of all this secrecy if you are going to leave a new account on? Go to users and select the account.
Step 16: Delete the account, and all their files (to cover our tracks).
Step 17: Restart to get out of safe mode again.
Step 18: Make sure the temp account is gone. Good job! You can now get admin rights to do what you want without being seen!
Notes: The first time you do this, it will take easily a half hour. Make sure you won?t be interrupted.
Final notes: I sneak downstairs on the weekends to do these. Don?t let your parents watch you do this, which ruins the whole point. Also, don?t do anything stupid that will show up instantly, like deleting entire parts of the program files. And again, do not do anything malicious to other people?s computers.
