Ok im gonna help you...

Here it is you need to re-install your DirectX coz maybe u have it your PC corrupted.
You can find directX at any VideoCard CD drivers in it, simply jst install the directX 9.0c version. Then try to re-run your PC and some test on gaming or u can run a command and type dxdiag...

Just post your computer specs/System.
or maybe try to play some high graphical game interface such as e.g. NFSMostwanted or maybe NBA Live to test you Vcard capability the last would be re-installing your CO and jst download the MultiClient to avoid some system failure at your PC

well actually there's nothing to do with what conquer.exe u use..
this mostly happens to ppl who use IBM laptops with ATI mobility Radeon gfx from what i know. yes i use one and 2 of my friend who use different models(but both are IBM with ATI mobility Radeon) have this problem too. i haven't heard of this problem from ppl using other brands yet. it won't happen on opening first client. but it may happen upon opening 2nd or 3rd or so on.. sometimes try opening CO again will do. the way which works 99% of the time(at least for me and 1 friend) is this..
right click desktop>properties>settings tab>change your desktop color depth.(if u r using 16 bit, change to 32 bit and vice versa)and click apply.
change it back to what it was and click ok
try opening CO.
