yes you can the only problem in doing this is if ya modify weapons to hit 2 stakes in tg when ya come out of tg and try and level on monsters it won't hit them so everytime ya come out of tg ya have to logoff and replace itemtype file again to normal weapon type to correct it.
( basically it is like the desert monsters and tombbat bug where ya have to jump right on top of em in order to hit ) only it does it on any monster and is sort of a pain in the ***..LOL but if you want to know how i can post it and you can do it yourself if you like.
Ya open your dat file with the editor and type in the searchbox the exact name of the weapon you want to edit and then select it and edit the range from 1 to 2 and save it and replace your original dat and then jump in middle of 2 stakes and viola!!
