Perfect CID proxy setup
I been using the CID proxy for awhile now. BTW GREAT program. Any way i have heard many many complaints about having to wait for updates to play and all kinds of stuff. I have solved most of these issues with a very simple technique. I will share it with you now.
Step 1
One way or another you need to get a clean copy of your CO folder. Basically get it back to were it was befor you installed CID. This will be easy if you made a back up of everything. if you want edited maps or item types go ahead and do that as well.
Step 2
Copy and paste the entire folder to the programs folder. After the copy is made rename it to something simular to the original folder. mostly rename it so that the 2 folders are next to each other so that switching between folders is easier. mine is named "Conquer2.x".
Step 3
Download and install CID proxy into the copied folder(i.e. Conquer2.x). When installing CID proxy it will ask you what folder. make sure to update it to the correct name or it will not work quite right.
Step 4
If not already there make shortcuts to the play.exe file in the original conquer2.0 folder. CID should already place short cuts on the desktop.
now ur done. if you wanna use the unedited co click the play.exe shortcut, if you wanna use CID click on his links.
NOTE: if you use the shortcut to play.exe the original folder will update and play as normal, no cid commands will work on any of these windows. when cid no longer works you can still play as normal on the regular system untill CID is updated. Once an updated CID is made available go to the CO update page and download all the patch files to the Conquer2.x file and run them. then reinstall the new CID files into the same Conquer2.x folder. tada there you go. when CID works you use it when CID dont work use the play shortcut.
i actually run a couple of CID windows and a couple normal windows so i dont overload the cid proxy...it seems to be much more stable doing that than having 4 or 5 CID windows going at once.
Making a multi client out of CID is the same as without CID...other than that you will have to do your own research. Hint: it involves a hex editor
