I have had a few friends (no names) who have botted, scamed ect.. and have had all their accounts banned/bot jailed, even the ones not doing the botting/scaming. I wouldnt put it past TQ to do something like that to earn a few extra bucks. I do however know their little "virus scanner" will detect and pick up any changes in your CO folder in program files and ban any chars associated with the computer in question which leads me to believe they would have to know your IP. Now i do know a way around this, i used to do this back in high school to get past the internet filters and thats using a proxy. BCO is an amazing proxy that would mask your IP to TQ if you plan on doing any "not so welcome" actions. Im not condoning it at all and dont get me wrong if you use this information it is under your own risk

Yah tq logs ip address on connection. I'm not sure if they keep a list of ALL ip addresses ever used on the character or not but I'm 100 pct positive they keep the most current ip address logged (and possibly mac address)
The 'anti virus' thingy is super basic and easy to disable anyways but it has nothing to do with ip logging.
Yes, the 'scam' does work to an extent but at the same time it's risky and rather cruel... not the most cruel thing I've seen ever but it's a SCAM... if you're gonna scam you are always hurting others so it's simply the level of douchebaggery that you are changing.
That being said... if you wanna up your douchebag level you simply use the information gained from sharing accounts to hack their paypal account, e-mail account, recover info for their characters, drain their parents bank account, change the registered e-mail for all their characters and leave them with nothing... More work but still 'effective'.
