God bless The Philippines from the Super typhoon on 11/8/2013
Sigh... why ... To all my Pinoy friends, stay safe!!! sigh seeing the pictures make my heart break... Defenseless against the storm's might
At least 100 people may have died in the Philippines from the impact of super typhoon Haiyan, a senior government official said on Saturday.
Bodies were lying in the streets, according to an initial report from an aviation officer in the central city of Tacloban, said Captain John Andrews, deputy director-general of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines.
"This report was relayed to us by our station manager so it is considered very reliable information," he told ABS-CBN television in an interview. "According to the station manager, the airport is completely ruined."
Tacloban is the capital of Leyte, a large island of about two million people that was hit by Haiyan on Friday morning when the storm was at its strongest, knocking out all its communication facilities.
An average of 20 major storms or typhoons, many of them deadly, batter the Philippines each year.
The developing country is particularly vulnerable because it is often the first major landmass for the storms after they build over the Pacific Ocean.
