Trade tips if you don't know a seller or buy expensive items/chars:
1. Check not only TBM rates but also account create date. Watch out not only fresh accounts, Some scammers has freezed half or even year old accounts, that wait for naive customers.
2. Always check from who seller got positive rates. Many scammmers make fake positives.
For example: seller has positve rates from 3 different ppl. Check them too. If those 3 traders gave rates mutually, it's suspicious.
Check this example (one of many on this forum):
3. If you see any old, trusted member in seller's rates, ask him about trade details. For example you can ask what item or account was traded (thread link). Scamers usually do many small, cheap trades to get easy positive rates.
Info from trusted member costs nothing, and let you know something about seller.
4. Always make trade request in seller's trade thread. Do not trade until seller accept it.
It still can't protect against well prepared scammer, so:
5. For safe trade use forum middleman.
Middleman status in profile (f.e. 2/0) doesn't mean official MM, so check it in proper blackmarket thread.
Look for official middleman who has phone verified account.
6. Talk with seller via forum PMs instead ingame chat or communicators. Switch PM settings, and let save messages in your message box. Logs can be helpful for forum admins if any troubles.
I know it's easier to use skype, but for important trade details better use forum. It prevents scamm from fake middleman, we had here many scammers that used skype to pretend official M-Ms.
7. If it's possible use fraps/xfire to film trade in game. Before you do it ask seller to tell his ingame nickname that he will use to trade. Save PM where he said it to your message box.
8. If offer sounds too good, too cheap, and is awesome bargain - think 3 times before you decide to buy.
9. Read this:
