doubt this will work ever again. it seems that whenever a socket is requested. server checks that you are a weapon, and not a piece of armor. how? every item has a base item id, even if you managed to somehow equip your armor in your hand, the base id wouldnt match that of a weapon, and the server would reject it.
Yep, spot on. Oh and so you know, this worked very well 2 years ago ^^. I paid a friend 6 dbs and he made me socketed robe and socketed boots :bandit: . I wouldn't be surprised if he was the reason it was patched, he abused it more than BJX was abused.

Ok... im a complete nb, + i understand nothing of programming, hex editing, or anything of the kind...
But i just thought of this possibility, and i'd like to know if its feasible.

Would it be possible to change something in the game, to allow players to equip ANY item on the right hand weapon slot?
It may sound stupid, but if it was possible maybe we could use Artisan Ou in BI to socket ANY item... and that would rock :D

I browsed the foruns and found nothing about this... If its a good idea, let me know :D
If its not... well forgive my noobness.
There is no way to do this, sorry.

Perhaps not. But there IS a way to socket, other than upgrading. Im positive about that.
Why? Well... on Mercury there was this guy "Fern" standing in the market for like a whole day... and he had a socketed DRESS.
I have no idea if that char still exists, but i dont think it was his main. But there are plenty of eye witnesses.
It was last week.

so how about changing the base number id of an item? or is that info on server side?

We can talk about it all day and nothing would get done, brainstorming on this matter has been done MANY times in the past and Im telling you it doesnt go anywhere.

Well i think you 're right. If the concept that started this thread is impracticable, then theres no use in wasting time with speculation about some misterious socketing trick.

If any 1 still think this could work and has some solid idea on how to make it work, feel free to post, otherwise i think this is it.

For those of you that might be interested, "Fern" still exists. He posted on the msg board today.
I still believe a hack for socketing is possible, though it would probably require some serious heavy duty hacking, and the people who know about it are not interested in sharing it. After all... the more people using such a thing, the faster it would be patched. And all the work to make the thing would become useless.

Good luck everybody

This might seem stupid, I asked GM how to change ID of each item, she wouldn't tell me. Hacking the ID would be the ultimate hack of all hack, not the 2 soc thingy. If you can change ID, just use the free wood sword = met , and do it at tc.

Anyone know where to start on changnig tag ID? (Imma beginner)

Socket time is more accurate, I made full sock gear 2x with sock times.
03/14/2006 09:51 some1else#25
it's patched now, and even if you managed somehow to equip a non weapon in your hand the server checks and it makes no socket
03/14/2006 12:35 Ultimation#26
no the server stores wich item u have in the right hand slot, and it now has checks to make sure it is a weapon

well, you have to be a serious hacker to hack an online game whenever ppl edit their graphics such as people do with fastblade the only person that can see it is the person who is using it. It wouldnt work long, they would fix it the next patch

not possible , my bro use pack editor put armor on weap slot (shadow item) and nothing happens
