Reviving the game
Hello y'all. I'm Passenger
Recently I've taken it upon myself to remake this game in Unity(C#), as to update the game's performances, graphics, gameplay, etc.
For too long this game has been outdated, with a poor community and influx of cashgrab private servers with decade(almost 2 decades now?) old binaries, gameplay decisions, user interfaces that really haven't kept up with the times at all and received no love other than adding new maps and new monsters without, in my opinion, adding to the lore of 9Dragons.
So here I am, remaking this game inside of the Unity engine and I'm looking for any experienced or knowledgeable enough developers, animators, 3D modelers, game designers, UI/UX designers, networking experts(I'm currently using a public networking library but I assume I'll need to bring changes to it). I'm not asking to learn how to code, I've been doing it for long enough that I know what I'm doing, and I've got a job in software development.
Any one who feels qualified and would like to bring this game up to standards, or at least give it a good paint job and improve all the bugs that currently plague this game, you're welcome to DM me here, or reply to this thread.

That's the best place where you can start. I said my part and I truly doubt a person that asked for 6 months for a SPA in Angular would manage to run a decent port of the game. Prove me wrong.

Next time don't forget to reserve a year for Python's "Hello World" project.
Then, our differences aside, what is your estimate for this project, considering the original game was created by a team with at least 20 pros for over 5 years straight, working full-time? On top of the existing engine/kernel, to begin with. So basically the situation here is similar.

Honestly couldn't say, it's a big project for sure. If I end up doing everything alone then it'll be even longer, but eh, it's still fun nonetheless.

Great initiative ! Would it maybe make sense to work together with this Nee Dawn team already since the purpose is similar ? Maybe that would speed up the process..

I can't speak on behalf of the New Dawn team, but the process isn't really similar.
They're doing reverse engineering and patching bugs, making and adding content through different tools they've created, without having access to most of the source code.
On my end, I'd be recreating the entire thing to get rid of said bugs, using an updated engine that would allow for better graphics, which I think wouldn't be possible for the New Dawn team without tearing down the engine, building a new one and porting the code to the new one, which would take even longer.

Too big of a hassle for a project that might get copyright striked. Did you analyse the legal challenges? Imagine working for years on a project only to find out you're not allowed to release it. I'd clarify the legal situation at first before even starting.

Massive undertaking for a single person currently. If you found yourself with more disciplines necessary to build a game - you might pull something off but I doubt it would be a 1:1 emulation of the current game (in a way that feels like it is 9dragons)
Do you plan on doing everything from scratch or will you basically be pinching all of the assets by exporting/importing into Unity (that is not a simple process and if you look at Xentax's forums you'll see why it would be difficult) Will you be building of something like uMMORPG or Atavism for a pre-existing framework?
Six months is delusional. I'd imagine you'll just get idiots who want to do this and probably have **** all to offer the pot. I'm also a bit skeptical as this is a obvious brand new account but you're clearly not new to this game. You don't come across epvp and the 'dead' 9dragons board by accident.
Legal ramifications shouldn't warrent this. You're better of just coming up with your own Wuxia style mmo.
Fantastic. You work in software development which means you're probably well versed in waterfalls, v models, uml, **** like that but what do you know about game development?
What's your current skillset - what have you previously developed, do you have something you can show the community to give them any shred of evidence you are the man for this job.
This isn't a new undertaking. A few people with some decent skill have tried this. I believe the last one was using UE and I think they got as far as importing models and that was as far (at least publicly) where that project went.
Who are you? I'm nervous for your undertaking and I don't know if you're aware. It's gonna be rough.
