Hey folks. Help meh!

Could anyone help me set up an online (or offline) 9Dragons server? Server files are out and available, all it needs is a little bit of manual compiling; which can and does get complicated after a while in case of not having the required level of IT knowledge. When I was a kid I sucked hard (big time) at building lego so it's also a disadvantage for me.

Thanks. Contact my **** via Skype or PM. You can also leave useless troll replies here (about me being gay and retarded).

The files you mention have a pretty much copy/paste description on how to get them going...

But for starters, do you even have a box that can support the server? 4GB gives you a pretty much barebones with one/two maps, and from there on, it goes to the tune of 400'ishMB per additional map...

Also, it should be a deicated box because running client/server on same, while possible, is less than stellar in terms of stability.

As far as online, iirc from last i remember, people weren't getting much luck, related to the fact that server binds to static values and most ppl don't have a static IP. Hamachi and other VPN's worked AFAICR.

But really, why bother. Go play GC, they have all this shinny new **** that wrecked a great game. You might have to put up with GM **********, but that's a minor thing...

First of all, thanks for replying. Secondly, it IS possible to set up an additional offline (or even an online) server. I saw it. I witnessed it. In spite of not having a static IP it can still be done. It only sucks because you might have to reconfigure some server settings each time IP changes. But it should work because dynamic IP only changes at each restart or even less frequently!

At r4g3z0n3 (sorry for writing it like that but it's a filtered word) they have the GM tools (however not the GM accounts) and people actually managed to spawn any item mall and non-item mall items and skills!
So it means an offline server can be set up and used. The reason I want it is because I'm already bored of 9Dragons. I played 9Dragons for a loooong time and it got boring. I want to test things without having to pay real cash. Because as you told me, I "should go to GC". Lel, no. Like I'm gonna pay for their bullcrap. Nah, no thanks. I want to use the GM tools on my own server, I want to spawn items that I never had before (like equip 8 blue banners) and grind like that or etc. And the reason I might want to make it online is simply because of me not being a greedy fuck, like - I don't want to point at people ...

As for the copy-paste part, lol, it is simple in the beginning but it gets much more complicated as I get ahead.

My laptop has 8GB ram with Windows 7 Ultimate OS x64, Intel HD Graphics 3000 integrated video card (isn't cool but is perfect for 9Dragons) and i3 cpu. Isn't the newest and latest one but it kicks more asses than my 8-year old crappy PC. My PC has 4gb ram (slow as fuck, 667 mhz clockspeeds lol) with some shitty ass video card (nx8400gs) which sucks more than that integrated laptop video card. My PC mobo is dp965lt with some intel core 2 duo cpu...bullshit.

Since a virtual maschine will drain more resources than needed I can help ya, if I ever got time, set it up on win 7, done that before.

However, like the guy above said, just like eod won't get on play9d's level of stability, you won't get at eod's level unless you manage to get a static IP and a higher output (similar to the bandwidth Jimie was given at the datacenter he hosted his server).

Exactly. If for private use/friends, guess it can be done, but really, you can get something like Softether running easily and it will take that burden off your back...

Tools yes, but not client. Thus, no realtime interaction. IIRC, only way to make it semi realtime was the "send to IM pickup" method.

Pay? o.O perish the thought... Just make a char on the event they have atm and you'll have a shitload of stuff real fast... Just keep this in mind, ck hyb and RL12 ,)

Should do, the whole shebang is a RAM issue, rest is only marginally important.

Poor choice imho. While it will run, same as it ran on my nLite'ed XP32, it won't be the environment it expects. Server 2k3 or XP Pro x64 are much more up to the servers expectations on environment/behavior. Same for SQL Server 2k8 and up, while it might work, they might have brought in subtle changes that make it "not quite 100% compatible".

I don't even want to get on their level. I just want to **** around. Wouldn't you wanna grind with x44 exp rate (compared to gc,) and have unlimited x3 cards and items? And +17 fully upgraded HG weapon and blue banners? I'd love that.

Already made the most OP chars possible using the KR item table and the KR skill table.

What's the point of grinding when you can make your char whatever you wish it to be?

Whole point (for me) of running an offline was to test some weirdo theories that would be either impractical or too time consuming to test in real servers.

As for OP gear, sigh, when you can almost 1-shoot anything with very modest gear, it becomes kinda pointless ,) Makes for great lulz and near ragequit when the warrior with so much cash shop up his *** grinding next to you can barely keep up with your near naked char ;P

Why did you try setup it follow Zero's guideline! if you do exactly 100% it should be run. A huge bug must be fixed if you want your friend playing it.

First of all - nice topic tags.
Secondly - I'd suggest you to follow Zero's tutorial and then tell us here where the **** you get stuck I might have experienced the same problems since I did go through hell until I managed to make it work.
Thirdly - You'll realize it yourself but having an offline/online server is overrated. I had them both and after doing the craziest **** I could ever imagine I got borred fast as ****. It's like fapping after you where ***** as hell. After the fap you're sick of ****. But what the heck just do what I said on point 2.

But everyone faps daily. When I fap, I think of you.

If you have a router providing DNS services, it will autoconf the bridged interface, same for IP ofc...

Slow? You have something wrong going about. VMWare guests typically run at about 80% the host speed give or take some for latency, process I/O, etc.. The 9D server in and by itself should use so little CPU you'd barely notice it.

I'll take a wild guess that you gave it ~4-8GB but have near that in physical RAM. And that's a no go. A rough estimate for any VM not to page is about (400MB+GuestOSRAM+ApplicationRAM).

As said before, it's hard to guesstimate for the full load, but you can get it roughly by around (400MB+GuestOS+BaseServerRAM+(400MB*#Maps))

I'd say 8GB shold fit the whole thing, give or take, but by that i mean 8GB for the guest, meaning the host needs ~9GB to fit the guest and will run nothing at all except for the VM.

Oc, all this is assuming you do know how to strip down a retail version of windows and/or are using an actual server version. Retail, aka consumer, versions will not play nicely once thrown into a server role unmodified. Too much pointless **** using up resources.

All in all, a cheappo 2nd box that can take 8-12GB is a much more sane option, CPU near irrelevant as long as it's 64b.

Anyway, if you serious about it, take the easy way. Run just a couple of basic maps and write down the numbers. Then load some more and write down the numbers again. Repeat until you can't fit more. Then you can extrapolate how much more you need.
