Outdated isn't all that bad. Best 9D server you could put together would actually be the Open Beta CS Cap version. Little to no bugs and what little "extras" existed actually worked fine. 9D was fun back then...

It's not about content, it's all about security.
Why'd you think servers like D9 thailand closed? Because of lack of content? They closed, because they had so many security flaws even the official developers couldn't patch properly that everyone capable of basic reverse engineering and game hacking understanding could **** around the actual server side. That's exactly what's going to happen to anyone who brings out a server with any files that aren't GC whether US/EU without a matter.

you know , hack or not is not the story ... that's all depending on real 9Dragons Player , and real 9Dragons Supporter with full of enthusiasm ! Always ready to build / fix / upgrade the game and always ready to use "BAN HAMMER" to block illegal users . All of online games are hackable , as you , Warv0x hacked GC EU files so that's the highest level of game's hacking . I'm going to open this server not for lazy peoples , hackers ... just for real 9Dragons Players , exp rate will be hard , drop rate hard too , donate as low enough to rent a server ...

That's not the point either, it's not about loyalty nor banning actual players. When your servers unintentionally keep crashing or causing the entire server to BSOD leaving no useful debug logs to dig after and eventually impossible to find even with source, because of exploits being based on obscure flaws. As well as implementing fake calls towards the data/game servers to think the calls are incomming from the GMS tool. All of it can be done, and has been done already. Even zerodin couldn't patch it, so no way would somebody patch anything especially without full latest source and a huge understanding and experience of application security.
Hosting a private server of a unique game isn't all fairytale bullshit about loyality of supporters, it's all about business and tactics. Can you hold the legal side of things, can you hold the competitors rage, do you have enough resources to prevent everything on both sides and so forth.
No matter what most people think, EVERYTHING is about the money in this niche and industry.

That iirc was a major but not only with 9D. The practical aspect of remote GM'ing still overrides the common sense security practice of NOT allowing it.
Mind bending really... Even a **** run of the mill solution such as tunneling over SSH (or any general use VPN..) would provide enough auth/security to remote GM'ing, but seems nobody gives a flying F.
Thumbs up for every dev that did make C&C a 100% detached process that can be properly secured...

Actually it's biased, because in almost every game out there it is practically possible to do malicious stuff to some extent. Even those with a 100% detached process usually have a second client they distribute to the junior GM staff with basic stuff like teleporting, being invisible, sometimes modifying item stats or even spawning items.
But yea, this is another reason why I mentioned "resources are neccessary". Unless you have enough money to handle legal things and security (which is quite costy) you stand no chances in this niche.

He probably would love also having the source code of it so they could fix broken stuff instead of having to read yet another thread of "FIX THIS ****" brought up by some dimwit that doesn't grep there's only so much you can fix with a binary and a DB...
Then again, some of Indy's code fragments do lead people to believe some stuff was BORN broken and has a snowballs chance in hell to be fixed...
Wouldn't amaze me if someone with access to full specs could write a emulator 10x better than the official server.

Nothing is possible to fix with the binaries and the database, not these types of bugs. They are clearly caused due to the networking, the only way to fix networking is to clean up the code and rearrange functions, attempt to find with some static code analysis what flaws are in place and fix them. With no pdb, no actual possibility for coding decent hooks, completely different structure from the source which was leaked (now with the latest updates they recoded it from scratch again which is ******* up even more functions we could usually touch).
Of course someone could code better files than the actual official ones, the point is - no one would even bother. At least not a single self respecting programmer I've heard of, would even think twice about coding an emulator of such an outdated low profiting ****** game.

That's disappointing to read. When you opened up P9D I thought you guys were true dedicated fans who wanted to give back to the community by doing better than the previous plubishers that went before. We really appreciate the XP, gifts and low IM prices.
However it sounds like now you've given up on the game. It's understandable I guess as 9D has possibly the worst community I've seen. It's full of egotistical players. I did warn you that no matter how good a publisher is at the beginning, the community always eventually turns.
Just one question then... I'm not niave enough to think that the servers run on thin air. Since you're now 'out of love' with 9Dragons, will you pull the plug if/when it stops becoming profitable ?

If there are no players and the costs of the servers are higher than the actual income, of course there's no point to run a server. But, I don't see that happening in the near future.
