If he said so, then it is either true or he lied. I don't know a reason for him to lie about it, but if he has one he could lie to you again. Or he could ignore your post. Or you may be luckier and get other 100 people telling you to stop asking such questions, as they are pointless.

I started to write a rudimentary status, login, and character server but I haven't worked on it in over a month. It is hard work inspecting each and every packet, especially for one person. I don't really know where to go from here.

Log each and every packet, then try to figure out what it is for, and what it contains. This is accomplished by first looking for anything familiar that I already know, second I change things and observe any changes. You do this for each and every packet. And you simply cannot know them all, there are some packets that I just send same as the server because changing them breaks things, but what they are for nobody but Santa knows.
