Rockstar Games, which is the studio behind "Grand Theft Auto," confirmed Monday that footage from the next installment of the series was leaked after a huge hack. Many gameplay videos of the game have been leaked.
tweet about the leak from the Rockstar Games official Twitter account.
Rockstar is announcing the massive GTA 6 leak last week with extensive copyright takedowns. Fans are now trying to find their own resources using the footage.
Kotaku reported that there were a few map-building activities, using leaked footage to estimate the size of GTA 6's vast open world.
This project recalls a fan-made GTA V map that was created by GTA Forum members. They used promotional footage and screenshots from the game to get a first look at Los Santos. The map is being made from leaked footage. Fans often get creative to circumvent Rockstar's copyright restrictions.
Fans have created maps showing where each location is in relation to others, with much of the leaked footage showing in-game coordinates. It is slow work, as many GTA Forums members are trying to figure out how to map the leaked content accurately without including images that cannot be shared in the community.
Other projects, hosted outside of the forums, have more detailed maps in the making. These include mini-map segments derived from leaked footage. Church of GTA has posted a map that includes some speculative roads, borders and more concrete details from the leaks.
The mapmaking efforts won't progress beyond speculation until Rockstar releases more information about the game, which is still some time away. Fans have revealed that GTA 6 will feature a vast world with maps at least twice the size of Los Santos in GTA V.
