First Steam Box revealed The first Steam Box has been revealed today at CES, giving us the first impression of this micro computer, which has been built by Valve in collaboration with Xi3, and shown under the codename "Piston".

"This new system could provide access to thousands of gaming titles through an integrated system that exceeds the capabilities of leading game consoles, but can fit in the palm of your hand"

This was said by the president, founder, and CEO of Xi3 Jason Sullivan.

The specifications of this micro PC are unknown, yet Xi3 has said that the Steam Box will have around a terabyte (TB) of internal storage, and modular component upgrades for its CPU and RAM. As well, it is said that this Steam Box model "Piston" is based on Xi3's X7A; therefore one can speculate about the specifications of it being around:
  • 4 up to 8 GB DDR3 RAM
  • Integrated graphics card with up to 384 programmable cores
  • Quad-Core processor running at 3.2GHz

Yet again, these are just assumptions.

Valve has not yet defined how the final product will look like, as Piston is just under a development stage only; therefore this company has been meeting over 15 potential hardware and software partners at this show, which might be an explanation about Valve's booth at the show, which shows different PCs running the Steam's Big Picture.
