Why I'm posting this? I just give a fresh reset to my PC and I end up installed everything again so I made this beauty compilation in the process.
vSRO 1.188 is short for Vietnam Silkroad Online v188 (v1.188 shown from client).
vSRO 1.188 is located somewhere at Silkroad Online Legend VI expansion, so it has all the stuffs before the Legend VII which is before the update about Hunter/Thief, Dimensional Mirror and Arabian stuffs, etc.
First, you need to make sure Certification executes correctly (it's where I had some issues on video, I didn't remember that setup).. everything else depends on it.

Sure, can be update. But you need update packages. For v188 is next published v193. Its new job update. Next leaked are so called 274 files, they have Jupiter update.
is it possible to use these files myself and just hosting a limited environment via my laptop to learn how to make game changes and load it up myself to check things out? Or do I need to use a full server service and filter system still? (sorry, never looked into actually using server files)

Check certificate, that is 100% the issue, you might did something wrong on the settings

Yes. the only requirements are the one being mentioned, just take a look to the video tutorial.

Take in mind these files are preconfigurated to use 192.168.1.121, so anywhere you find that IP you'll need to change it.
I didn't have plans to explain it since I may don't remember correctly but I'm gonna try (and if I miss something I'll add it)
You'll have to change the IP written inside the executable from modules, so that's the _IPSpoofing.exe tool you'll find inside the files; execute it write the executable name and set the new ip on each module.
Then try to change the IP inside server.cfg,smc_updater.cfg, ServiceManager.cfg, Certification.xml text files.
Last but not least, the IP from database tables; SRO_CERTIFICATION.ServerMachine, SRO_VT_ACCOUNT._PrivilegedIP.
For the client side, use IPINPUT tool to change the host/IP.
