Do you know the difference between a vserver and a dedicated server? (Or did you just snapped up these expressions?)
For some players/having fun/a smaller project a vps with a decent setup is quite enough. If you want to handle 500+ players i would prefer a dedicated even if it has a worse setup than the vserver.

A VPS can be good enough for <100 players, or maybe more players with older files.
Dedicated servers are more powerfull and you should get a dedicated server if you expect your server to have hundreds of players.

VPS is a virtual server (virtual processor - shared i-net - virtual RAM) . Dedicated stand-alone processor, stand-alone ram, main i-net connection etc .

a vps shares cpu, connection and disk, it will be a whole lot slower than a dedicated server (database will run on a shared disk, so it will lag more)

I don't think there are any legit companies that are offering such "trials" .
