Unfortunately, it is. Just look at several "discussion" topics in this subforum, and you'll find ~80% posts of guys who aren't actually interested in a discussion, but rather in being funny. It's kind of sad and I don't see a particular reason why one would do this, the only actual result is showing off oneself as a complete ******.
Speaking of childish behaviour, we've got several ones like him around here. To be honest, being helpful and trustworthy isn't a bad goal to aim for, but the actual reasons he wanted to ... "achieve" (?) these aren't particularly good.
When you join a community, you've always got an aim. Whether it be "I'm going to mod this section in a few years time!" and things like that. Some people just instantly join the forum, post for one month, and expect everybody to praise them and promote them to admin, and if they don't, they disrespect people through anger.

I don't think everyone has a goal one's thinking of when joining a community. At least not a community-related one. Sure, there'll be a reason why you registered here in the first place, but it might be just because you're interested in the general topic.
