Surprisingly yes. At least I did not follow much the community both in- and off-game.

~~There are no articles talking about it really, except maybe an official post on GW2 forums.~~ Long story short is anet detected a bunch of bots/ hacking tools and had a banwave somewhere around January/ February 2018. Methods to detect hacks and bots can come in all kinds of ways. They can be targeted at specific applications or general anti-bot measurements can be taken. On top of that you have the difference between server -and client sided detection.

Out of curiosity I started searching around the web and found something on reddit about the banwave/ detection method in april, thought it was in January but guess I was wrong? Idk, eitherway here is the link:

They could just use it again, no one is willing to go through the hassle of suing, possibly losing and ending up having not to only pay his own lawyer costs, but arenanet's too. There is nothing really stopping them from using it except for moral reasons.
