I like to see positivity rather than negativity. Or try to see my work / comments from their perspective.
Passive aggressive would be more like... "my favorite part of this project is how humble you are". (I'm giving direct feedback here). Reading this thread feels like you're being interviewed sometimes rather than being in a community. Like... very self-praising and a bit narcissistic. It might help to be a bit more open to seeing people's comments from their own perspective. Not everything is an attack on your accomplishments or worth. Ultimation and Moh can also learn a thing or two on that (choosing to be direct here, too). It feels like you all are sometimes too quick to react to something / get insulted with people's comments. It'd be really cool to just chill with y'all someday, but I feel like y'all are more interested in yourselves sometimes. It feels like you close yourself off a lot, but then boast about how great your work is and criticize those who comment even a little on your method (slightly positive or slightly negative).
Anyways, end of direct feedback now. It looks like you're enjoying this project. I hope that's enough for you to keep going and working at this. But also, would be cool if more people combined some of their efforts (since it seems like making a client is a popular topic right now).

Hey Spirited.
I read this twice.
And somehow it gets even more fucking ridiculous the second time.
So since you've decided to turn my development thread into an unsolicited psychological assessment of me, Ultimation and Moh, let's go through this properly.
1. First of all: don't you fucking dare drag Ultimation into this.
You have an issue with
me?
Address
me.
You want to criticise how
I responded?
Criticise
me.
But you had absolutely no fucking reason whatsoever to suddenly throw this in:
Quote:
|
"Ultimation and Moh can also learn a thing or two on that"
|
Who the fuck appointed you their teacher?
Seriously. Learn a thing or two from you about what?
Humility? Compassion? Community? How to treat people?
You know absolutely fuck all about Ultimation as a person compared to me.
I actually know him.
He has housed me.
He has helped me.
He has supported me.
He has shown me what kind of person he is when there was no audience, no forum reputation, no public applause and absolutely nothing in it for him.
So don't you dare stroll into my thread and casually reduce somebody like that to another name in your smug little personality critique.
And what makes it even worse is that
you of all people should know better.
Ultimation's history in this community predates an enormous amount of what came afterwards.
AcidCO.
Custom-source work.
Reverse engineering.
Development.
Helping people.
Sharing knowledge.
Years and years of actual contribution.
And you've previously spoken yourself about people in this community who
"helped get me started."
So perhaps before you start lecturing Ultimation on humility and behaviour, you should remember your own fucking history.
Don't bite the hands that helped build the ladder you climbed.
It isn't clever.
It isn't insightful.
It's fucking graceless.
2. Now let's deal with you calling me "narcissistic."
Because yes, Spirited, you chose that word.
You didn't say:
Quote:
|
"I think you may have interpreted that comment too negatively."
|
That would have been reasonable.
Instead, you decided to describe me as:
narcissistic
self-praising
boastful
overly interested in myself
emotionally closed-off
too sensitive
unable to understand other people's perspectives
Based on what?
A development thread?
Some forum posts?
A disagreement?
Do you seriously not hear yourself?
You have taken a tiny, highly specific window into somebody's life and somehow convinced yourself that you're qualified to explain their character back to them.
You're not.
You don't know me.
You know what I post here.
Those are not the same fucking thing.
And the level of confidence required to leap from:
"I don't like how this development thread reads"
to:
"I understand this person's personality well enough to call him narcissistic"
is absolutely staggering.
That isn't insight.
That's ignorance with confidence.
3. THIS IS A DEVELOPMENT THREAD.
I honestly cannot believe I need to spell this out to somebody who's been on ElitePvPers this long.
I created a thread about something
I am developing.
So yes, amazingly enough, I am going to talk about
:
- what I built
- what I discovered
- what I reverse engineered
- what I achieved
- what worked
- what didn't
- what I'm proud of
- what I find impressive about the result
THAT IS THE FUCKING POINT OF THE THREAD.
What do you actually want?
Should every update look like this?
Quote:
Hello everyone.
Unfortunately I implemented another feature today.
I apologise for mentioning this in my own development thread and promise not to display any visible pride in case Spirited diagnoses me with a personality disorder.
Regards.
|
Give me a fucking break.
Being proud of work you spent a huge amount of effort on.
Talking about your project in your project thread is not narcissism.
Explaining what you've achieved is not narcissism.
You have somehow confused enthusiasm and confidence with a character defect.
That is your problem.
Not mine.
4. And the hypocrisy in your post is fucking spectacular.
Your central argument is:
Quote:
|
"You guys are too quick to take comments personally."
|
And your solution?
MAKE THE ENTIRE DISCUSSION PERSONAL.
You could have said:
Quote:
|
"John, I think you misread his tone."
|
Done.
Instead, you decided to tell me what kind of person I am.
Then Ultimation.
Then Moh.
Then you started telling us how interested we supposedly are in ourselves.
Then how emotionally closed-off we are.
Then how we handle criticism.
Then whether you'd enjoy socialising with us.
You turned a disagreement over the interpretation of ONE FUCKING COMMENT into a personality assessment of THREE PEOPLE.
And then somehow had the audacity to lecture
us about taking things too personally.
The lack of self-awareness required to write that is genuinely fucking incredible.
5. "I'm giving direct feedback here" does not magically make you less of a prick.
This little rhetorical shield you've built is ridiculous.
You seem to think you can write something insulting and then put:
"just being direct!"
next to it and suddenly it's constructive criticism.
No.
If I wrote:
"Spirited, I think you're pompous, self-important and completely fucking lacking in self-awareness. Just giving you direct feedback!"
would the last sentence magically make the first sentence wholesome?
Of course it fucking wouldn't.
You called me narcissistic.
You called me boastful.
You said I'm mostly interested in myself.
You said I close myself off.
Own your words.
Don't throw the punch and then hide behind "feedback" when somebody calls you out on it.
6. I am MORE than capable of taking criticism.
You want to criticise the project?
Fucking do it.
Tell me:
my architecture is shit
my implementation is wrong
I misunderstood the protocol
my reverse engineering is inaccurate
an assumption is unsupported
my monster behaviour is wrong
my AI-generated code is garbage
Fantastic.
Now prove it.
Bring packets.
Bring code.
Bring logs.
Bring tests.
Bring evidence.
Give me something technical.
Give me something useful.
I will argue about it all fucking day.
But do not pretend there is no difference between:
"Your implementation is technically incorrect."
and:
"You're narcissistic and mostly interested in yourself."
One is technical criticism.
The other is you being a prick and pretending it's mentorship.
7. And yes, let's talk about AI.
Because we both know that's sitting underneath a lot of this.
You don't like AI.
Fine.
Don't use it.
You think AI-assisted development is unimpressive?
Fine.
Explain why.
You think AI generated something badly?
Show me.
You think my implementation is wrong?
Disprove it.
You think the architecture is shit?
Explain where.
You think the reverse engineering is inaccurate?
Correct it.
Attack the fucking work.
That's an argument I'd actually enjoy.
Because here's the inconvenient reality:
code does not magically stop working because Spirited disapproves of the tool that helped write it.
If the code is wrong, demonstrate that it's wrong.
If the implementation works, then your philosophical dislike of the toolchain does not become a technical rebuttal.
And I absolutely do not need your permission to use AI.
I care whether I understand the result.
I care whether I can verify it.
I care whether I can debug it.
I care whether I can maintain it.
I care whether it fucking works.
Your approval is not part of the build process.
8. And then we get to this fucking masterpiece:
Quote:
|
"It'd be really cool to just chill with y'all someday, but I feel like y'all are more interested in yourselves sometimes."
|
What an utterly bizarre thing to write.
You've just spent several paragraphs calling people narcissistic, boastful, oversensitive and self-interested...
...and then effectively gone:
"Anyway lads, pint sometime?"
Fucking incredible.
Imagine walking up to somebody in a pub:
"Hi mate. You seem narcissistic, self-absorbed, boastful, oversensitive and emotionally closed-off. Wanna hang out?"
Phenomenal social strategy.
And here's the thing you apparently haven't grasped:
Nobody here owes you a personality you personally enjoy.
I'm not auditioning to become your friend.
I'm not waiting for Spirited's approval.
I'm not going to deliberately talk down my own achievements so that you find me sufficiently humble.
I built something.
I'm proud of it.
Deal with it.
9. And perhaps the funniest irony of all is that YOU are the one accusing other people of narcissism.
You wandered into somebody else's thread.
You decided you understood three people's personalities.
You decided you understood their motivations.
You decided you knew how they view themselves.
You decided you knew how they view everyone else.
You decided you knew how they should behave.
You decided you were qualified to correct them.
And then you called THEM self-important.
Do you genuinely not see the fucking irony?
Because from where I'm sitting, the person displaying the most breathtaking level of presumption here isn't Ultimation.
It isn't Moh.
And it certainly isn't me for posting fucking development updates in a development thread.
It's the person who apparently thinks a handful of forum posts qualify him to psychoanalyse everybody else in the room.
10. So here's some actual direct feedback for you, Spirited.
Talk about the project.
Challenge my claims.
Challenge the implementation.
Challenge my methodology.
Challenge my AI use.
Tell me I'm wrong.
Then prove it.
But keep the bargain-bin psychoanalysis out of my thread.
And don't you fucking dare casually drag my friends into your argument with me again.
Especially somebody whose contribution to this community stretches back years and whose work forms part of the history that people who came later benefited from.
You don't have to like me.
You don't have to like my tone.
You don't have to like AI.
You don't have to think the project is impressive.
I could not give less of a fuck.
But don't confuse your personal irritation with insight into my character.
And don't call three people narcissistic, arrogant, boastful and self-interested and then hide behind:
"I'm just being direct."
You came into my development thread.
Contributed precisely fuck all to the actual development being discussed.
Turned a disagreement about tone into a personal critique of three people.
Complained about people making things personal while making it intensely personal yourself.
Complained about arrogance while assuming the authority to explain everybody else's personalities to them.
Complained about people lacking perspective while displaying absolutely none regarding your own behaviour.
Then finished by talking about how everyone should collaborate more.
The irony is so fucking dense it should have its own gravitational field.
So, genuinely:
If you think something I've built is wrong, show me.
If you think AI makes the work worthless, make the argument.
If you have technical criticism, bring it.
Otherwise spare me the amateur psychology lesson.
You don't know me nearly as well as you think you do.
You had nowhere near enough basis to make those remarks.
And after all these years, I genuinely expected you to have enough self-awareness to know the difference.
Written by myself & proof-read by astra. enjoy.
