[Guide] How to Create a Private Server

Do not ask me about any of my pictures please. I put them in to add understanding to this thread. I don't have any personal gain by putting the images up except for the positive responses I get from helping people. Do not flame. Thank you.
You don't need gears to own- only a heart.

Yep, starting off with an image and a quote!
I'm back!

Today, I'm going to reteach you all about making a server.
Even the great and awesome coders might not know this.
I hope you all benefit from it.
Good Luck =]

You'll get this sooner or later and be able to log on! Just keep trying ^^
Also, make sure you back up your server! You don't want to lose it!
It will pay off when you see that your server is a happy, awesome place to play.
I have to admit, one of my players started to freak out when he couldn't pk since everyone was so nice- he got over it though and had the best time of maybe his life as he's fighting for the USA (my country) right now.
It's those kinds of experiences that make life a reward. Don't just help yourself by coding your own server, help someone else achieve in life... or maybe even save their life.

Don't be scared to know your players very well. Sometimes it's those bonds that makes a girl put the knife down and say "he gives me something to live for". You never know.

Have fun.
Good Luck.

Does this server patch have talismans? I can't remember when they came out... I don't want them in my server.

Yeah. It does. It's easy to get rid of them though. Simply delete the item codes in items.txt in the database.

Yeah, I can do that... I was more thinking along the lines of when you open your stats... It shows the 2 boxes...

Yah =P It shows the two boxes plus the box for the horse.
If you have any questions about the source itself, go to article one. =]

hmm, i wonder if i could get rid of those somehow... I'll look into it when i get it all set up.

Thanks for a great guide and some inspiration.

Yah, you can just edit the client... i got this far...
but the problem is the GUI.ini file.
You need to move the steed configuration coords...
and i'm not sure what code controls it.

Well it doesn't matter atm. My laptop (signature) is being fixed... I should have it back soon though. Then I'll move my private server onto the laptop and recreate that little window since I have to start over now.

You could probably find the code by installing a client that doesn't have the windows and then patching it up until it has windows. Then you could take the patch and install it in a folder, take the GUI.ini from the new patch and compare it to the client's right before you installed it.

This thread really isn't for article 1 but if you're following this guide then you must want to succeed in some way. Well what part are you stuck on? Did you change the directory inside the source to match with the location of the OldCODB folder?
