Friendly GM ex. when the GM decide to start chatting with the players with an idea (Lets see who's the Boss) so he start globaling sup guys, how you doing, if there's any bug pm me please, then u tell him, then he replays, this is not a bug, so WTF why u asked for it, simply because he want to have the feel that he's important...
and there's more actually but i think you got the idea
so i think all the players want these few things "EASY THINGS AS WELL" but the owners will never understand
1. Simple and understandable system
2. No Custom Avatars
3. No Custom Skills
4. No 99999 Gold drop per mobs
5. No Free Silk
6. No Titan Uniques
7. No New Regions
8. No Online GM
9. No New Events (So-ok & Battle Arena & FTW) is already enough
10. No Custom Things like Wings or Visual things or Pets...
11. No Greedy Owners that open 1 month to collect then kaboom close and re-open with a name of "New Season" like it's a series when it's not
12. No Much Edits
So if you see almost of em are (NO things) which is easier , but the owners have to edit things and things lead to other things till they change the whole idea of silkroad to something that we will never understand "Freaky-Road-Thing"

be trusted, be simple, don't be in rush, be humble, don't ban players because u have the ban button
that's it, hope that helps the new Servers Owners when there's no new ones, only Close And re-open ones available with new names ofc in order to have the trust again...
The Players used to be cheated in past, but for now they learned year after year, only few people still didn't got the lesson yet and almost of em new people like 13~16 yo

I would like to know, what's your opinion about the bots and IP limit. The last 3 servers I made were almost exactly like your description (Excalibur Online, Silkroad Journey and II CIVILIZATIONS) literally no edits, br files and Silkroad Journey and II CIVILIZATIONS died in just 6~7 months, I managed to continue Excalibur Online for 2 years with average 1500 players, but that was thanks to my aggressive advertisement policy. I spent $450 every month just for the advertisements, players were leaving but there were always new players starting. Back than there were not a lot of servers advertising in platforms such as Facebook and Adwords so I were paying only about $0.01 per website click and about $0.10 per account created which was pretty good. I got 120,000 accounts for only about ~$10,000 worth of ad during this 2 years period.
There were only normal item mall items, I even removed the Magic POP.
But still the average play time of a player were only 2 to 3 months, actually they were returning 5~6 months later after they leave but not consistently playing. I can't figure out what I were doing wrong and the game was just like in your description. I were getting a lot complains that there is no GM activity, that other servers are making awesome events and we are only making official isro events that doesn't involve GM's. They were saying I don't care about the server because they haven't seen me for a year, but actually that was the concept of the game.
I feel like players are always finding something to complain, and I can't figure our what's right and what's not anymore.
So it's possible to make a server which continues years long if you got some really aggressive advertisement policy which is even harder today, since ad prices got almost 15 times higher compared to 2014 when I launched Excalibur Online.
What's so strange is that players are always trying to find something to complain, even tho it's not something to be complained about. We claimed that we are trying to recreate 2008 times of isro, exact duplicate with it's goods and bad sides, but players were like hey this is just like isro, why to play pvp if it will be exactly like isro, even it says that we are trying to dublicate isro in our ads and concept explanation page.
