why doesn't 9d work in windows8?

Can someone explain in technical terms the constraints and challenges?

New security and driver model. 9D itself doesn't actually have many issues with it, the main problem is in GG/HS, that shit burries itself deep in the OS and any core change breaks it. Was same for Vista/7, will be same on the next model change.

Isn't the gamecampus version already working on win8? Can't you just use their files?

That's just client. Server files are something else.

the server version of gameguard we have on the server side is incompatible with the version the client has if you use newer files from other games, they both have to match or else a function is called to detect the process and terminate the process running the client. there are in-depth posts on other forum sites which explain in fine detail what gameguard is doing, there are also posts on forums which give a list of all the drivers gameguard hooks onto.

As Jamie said. Even if we could get some reverser interrested in pro-bono work to unwrap that PoS out of the client, the server heartbeat would kick people out muy pronto. Assuming they are using it. Which they probably are...

Unwrapping both the client and the server is doable ofc, but i'm sure everyone remembers G1 and how well it goes when 9D isn't wrapped... Fun times though, instant traps et all...

To keep it simple: old server files don't know Win8.1+, so even if you get new client files, you can't do that for server. *except there will be the massive leak*
