Es gab auch mal einen News-Beitrag (bei CNN glaube ich), bei dem jemand der für TF2 Waffen erstellt hat die ins Spiel kamen, haltet euch fest... 88.000 USD in einem Jahr verdient hat. Kann man auch mal nachgooglen. Jedoch funktioniert das mit dem "Gehalt" durch den Workshop in CS:GO anders als in TF2.
Hier noch zwei Zitate von Menschen, die ihre TF2 Skins/Models im Workshop veröffentlicht haben, welche später auch ins Spiel kamen (durch Community-Abstimmung wie es scheint):

To Valve cashflow like that means they get the freedom to carry on experimenting with one of their biggest properties, but it means something a lot more personal to Will."
