replication server

I'm just thinking out loud here and hoping to see if this is an option of possibility.

Was wondering if it's possible to have 2 pc hosting the same server. If one pc is down, the other one replicates the server so it doesn't dc players and so forward.

I notice that the hard part is; we're going to need another pc which means 3 pc altogether. Why? if we put everything on one pc such as the ftp & database, if that pc goes down. The other pc has nowhere to point it to. The 3 pc will likely store database and & ftp while the other pc just need the server files to be run. I'm sure 80% of the time; the 3 pc will stay alive than the other 2.

you can use database replication to shard the database, then just add a script that starts the modules on the second pc and updates the dns

Only if it's possible to use no-ip on server.cfg and including the certification; my job would be easy, but unfortunately it isn't possible.

you need to configurate the vsro files on each server seperatly, the only thing they share is the database and ftp

No need for 3 machines, 2 are enough

You can easily start the FTP and web server at both(nothing really sync there)
You have to configure a failover-cluster for the database, though
Not that hard as well

The bigger problem is the sro server architecture
As far as I know it's not possible to configure two gameservers for one shard and tell one of them to only get in action once the other one is offline

You could of course just mirror it completely on both machines(so they are independent)
I'd just add a second Globalmanager(buggy, but possible; allows you to still manage the servers even if one is down), gatewayserver, etc and mirror the shard

a/w, not that easy with sro
