you can use photoshop:
download any img and with this tool you can transform a .dds to jpeg.
Then open the JpEG with Photoshop and then you can edit this picture.
After that you save it and with the DDS Converter 2 you can transform the JPEG back to .dds.

So dds's are the skin/materials... which seem relatively easy to edit. The pkf's are mesh's? How do you convert them to a usable format? I found some of the models are in .ASE format, like the a-10 and some special event items, but not all of them. I managed to import the a-10 into 3dsmax using 3d object converter, but most of the other mesh's seem to be more complex to get to. I also haven't found the character mesh's. Anyone know where they are or how to extract them?

Also there are smf formats for buildings and such? I would be cool to edit the cities in 3dsmax too.

I want to play around with the medic in 3dsmax. lol

From what I could translate this is only the dds's, the textures, not the mesh's. Or are some of the 3d mesh's like the landscape in dds format as well? I know certainly all of them aren't, some of them are pkf and other formats, like .smf(from the names most of the buildings are in .smf(simple mesh format)). I looked up this format, there's very little on it, it seems to be a standard one, but almost no converters I can find. I don't care that much about the textures, I want to manipulate the actual models. I saw that thread before bumping up this one as well.
