[Application] Some Coders section

Hi guys,

I'm xNopex, 18 years old and from Germany. I wanna apply for becoming moderator in one of your coders section. Although you have with MrSm!th and Adroxxx two very talented and high skilled mods with in depth knowledge in programming, I think I would be able to support one of them in doing their job. Currently I have quite a lot of free time. I've just finished school and now I have to wait several months before I can start studying. So as you can see, being active won't be a problem for me.

Furthermore I think I would be sufficiently qualified for this job. I've been programming for four years now. I've started with C++ then learned some basic Java and ASM in school. At last I also worked successfully with C# and VB.NET. In my so called 'ABITUR' I achieved 15points (maximum score) in informatics, so I also know some further concepts in programming (queue, stack, tree, graph,...) and theoretic concepts, too.
To be honest, I'm not quite familiar with the art of 'gamehacking'. Although I've written once my own D3D base, I am not very talented in reverse engineering, so I stopped coding 'cheats' or whatsoever you like to call it. Nevertheless I do have knowledge in this field, so I would also be able to help users with basic problems.

Maybe some of you will complain that I were nasty and arrogant to the users when I tried to answer their questions in the past. Of course they are wrong! In my humbling opinion I was neither nasty nor mean nor arrogant. I would call my behaviour 'tough' which is a very important trait for a moderator. I do know my limits and I think I have never insulted any other member of the board.

My mother tongue is German but as you can see I have some English language skills as well. So answering in English won't be a problem for me, I think. Additionally I have learned some Latin, but I think this won't be very usefull ;)
Furthermore I have some little experiences in moderating small boards. So this whole work won't be completely new for me, but it is quite likely that I will need some time of orientation.

I have to admit that it is quite hard for me to handle stupid questions but as a moderator I will give my best to answer in a proper and helpful way. I would put heart and soul into it. All in all I think I am "mentally prepared and fitting for such a position".

Last but not least:
Quote:
What is the reason you decided to apply?
I like being active in programming boards and I do like helping others and learn from their questions and mistakes. Since I started learning coding, I read through the topics of well known coding forums and tried to solve them. The moderators of this boards seemed to be people who can answer any question that has been asked. I've always venerated them. Now it would be a great pleasure for me to become part of the staff of this unique forum.

Contact data
Well, I created a seperate ICQ Account (613659646) only for this forum. Furthermore we can communicate via MSN. IRC wouldn't be a problem, too.

Now it is up to you to decide whether I am qualified for this job and whether there is a demand for another moderator in one of the coders section. I will accept any answer I'll get.

Best regards
xNopex

Hi,

your application is pretty good, I haven't seen such an good application from a new member yet.

I would say "yes" but do the moderators need a new moderator beside them?

First of all yes.

Greetings

Some mistakes in your English "skills"

Nevertheless, I guess that Smith and Androx are quite capable of handling the situation there, so I would have to say no.

@my quoted post:
You´re writing an application. "Too colloquial" doesn´t exist in such a text.
What your teachers say actually doesn´t matter.
I know how they teach english in german schools... not very good.

And the conjugation of verbs isn´t the way it should be "I want to apply" would be correct in your second sentence.
That was a major mistake. I corrected it. Thank you.

You have some typical mistakes that Germans make when they´re translating a text or writing texts in English.
Maybe that's because I am German and English has never been one of my favourite subjects in school. But I think you can understand me anyway, can't you?

Furthermore you are writing the way you would talk. E.g. "I wanna" instead of "I want to".
Well actually our English teachers in school even complained about short forms in written texts as they are 'too colloquial'. I've never cared :)

I've never doubted that. But maybe they are glad about some help? But thanks for your opinion.

Ja:)

I would highly recommend you to rewrite your application in German. Your English is actually not bad but your grammar is - as far as I can judge since I'm also not a native speaker - too close to the German grammar, especially regarding the word order and the vocabulary (e.g. the English equivalent for "Abitur" is "a-levels").
At least I want to wish you good luck and I hope to be able to reread this application in German :)
