Beginner - How to make a Private Server

Hello.
First off all, my motherlanguage is german and my english isn't that great. So don't be angry cause of my bad english, please.

My husband and I wanna make a privat server. I know how to make a Rootserver and he is able to program C# and other stuff. (Is ABLE and doesn't do it perfect.)

But now I have a little problem.
I found some tutorials, but sometimes they don't describe it with a rootserver or I can't understand every step, cause of my bad english. (Or mostly the tutorials are bullshit. :rolleyes: )

So it would be nice, if someone could help me with my private server, please.
I just need a clearly tutorial, where a non-perfect-speaking person is able to understand it. ;)

Thank you very much.

Edit:
Btw we are planning to make an CO-Server from the old-times. (3-4 years ago. Not sure atm.)

That depends on how you wanna do it. You have 2 options at this point, which are either 1 : Code your own server from SCRATCH, which is, creating everything from 0(I'm doing this) or 2 : Downloading a public released source and setting it up(you can edit it but you don't feel the owner of the server because you didn't code it, besides, it takes some time for you to learn how to use other people's sources)
Anyways, they are lots of tutorials for both options but, for option number one, I recommend P4N's one(found here : [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...])

Good luck.
Sincerely, acvc.

@NeoX
Ich adde dich mal später, danke. ^^

@acvc
Thanks for your answer.
I thought about the 2nd way, because we are not that good in programming yet.
If we are able to understand every code, we will try the 1st way.
Do you know any simple tutorials for the 2nd way? Because I already searched a bit in epvp, but didn't found a good tuturiol / a tutorial I can understand. :/

Thank you!

Awww thanks :P

I would have continued on to game server but looking at the thread the interest was.... minimal...

@ the thread.

You say you're looking for an existing source to 'build on' essentially and a good guide for setting it up...

Before you do that you need to decide what type of source you want to use. By this I mean are you willing to put real work into this in order to have a GOOD private server or do you just want something that you can run a file and have a finished or nearly finished server?

It sounds like you guys might be willing to put some work into this (which is FANTASTIC) in which case I'd suggest using hybrid's source (either the old base source or his newer project manifesto source which is FANTASTIC)

Regardless what source you decide to use, you can switch the client patch it runs down the road, the first step is to learn how to use the source you chose properly and get comfortable with coding. After that you can change to any patch you want.

For reference, here's fang's awesome list of public sources, what patch they run and what's good/bad about them (it's not full but it's a nice start)

Once you decide on a source to use you can worry about how to set it up properly (I strongly recommend project manifesto.. it's the best public C# source out there I've had the pleasure of reading through... that being said it uses far more advanced coding concepts then many other sources so understanding the code may be harder for you... If that's the case his 5017 base is still a FANTASTIC resource.

I'm a bit in hurry and will answer later. Sorry guys. >.< But: Thanks for your answers.

@p4n
I've read your post and will check it later. Can I send you a PM, if I have questions about it? Or should I edit my post in my thread for you? ^^
Thank you!
Edit:
You got a PM. ;)

Didn't got any reply from both.
So I have still the same problem ... could anyone help, please?
