I can see why you don't have sympathy for people who refuse to read error messages or even read the first page of results on google, but in my opinion, you and I both (along with multiple others) have too high of standards. If someone posts their code here (and it's not leeched), then I think we should respect that poster. As I said, people here are scared to post anything if it's not their best work or better than everyone else's here. We're here to support each other, and although 95% of the people here need a step-by-step guide on how to breath, we should at least support the 5% that work hard at finding solutions - whether that's helping them refactor their code or helping them write it.Quote:

Since thats my opinion and this is a forum on the internet, im entitled to post my opinion and tell people how stupid they are for not being able to read "Invalid user Account!!" or "username/password is incorrect!!", in the same way that you are entitled to post your opinion about me.
And with regards to me thinking solutions are better than other peoples, this is true in alot of cases since i actually perform research when i code solutions to problems, and therefore arrive at what can be deemed as one of the best solutions available, which in most cases is better than what has been posted. Sorry if this makes me look like a douché but i could care less.
I dont consider myself to be a shining light, i dont consider myself to be a leader of the community, i dont even consider myself to be, what is most easily described as an elite member of the community. Im just a coder who happens to have been active in the community for a long time, which positions me in such a way so as i can comment on the state of the community as it is now.
Also back to the original point of this topic, i think this should be closed as the only thing this has proved is that Zero is about as in touch with the community as politicians are with their citizens. So this discussion is pointless, as numerous members of the community have now posted and he has just proceeded to get into an argument with all of them, so he is effectively arguing with the community about how the community is.......which kind of demonstrates how in touch he is.

You do not benefit this community at all with that way of thinking. All it does is drive the community into its own destruction as people fight with each other over the most simplest of things such as a password encryption or the latest packet structure or a bot for official servers.
In the end, there's one thing you've missed. There STILL isn't an up to date server in existence. There never will be at this rate. TQ comes up with new things slowly. There is plenty of time to catch up in between patches, but it will not happen with this mentality. The pserver community in essence is a waste of time with people hoarding information.

I do think that sharing in this community is possible, not share a whole new thing, but share something better than what's already there. That way only who can will have the latest features and others will have a possible better code.
This way both Korvacs and bone-you will have some comfort :P.

I had a similar system designed in my proxy. Not a single person picked up on it even though it had the potential to be the most powerful proxy out at the time. The design is fantastic. I had always thought of doing it in a pserver, but had never acted on it because I knew few would ever even take interest in it let alone code something for it.

An open source project on the other hand is an attempt to make an entire server and doesn't really rely on the community. So yes. There is a difference. Im sorry but now your just making excuses, you want the community to change, but dont want to be the one to do it, all talk, no action. That is exactly why this is entirely wasted as a thread, if you want to change it then change it, go learn how to find the encryption and release it, or work on a pserver api that will work for versions which you do have the encryption for. Both of these things are easily within your reach yet you claim that you cant do it because people wont share things with you, well if they wont share with you, what stops you from gaining the knowledge yourself and sharing with the community?

I can't be the one to change the mentality that it's in now. I'm not the one with all the hoarded information. Trust me, if I had the new password enc, all the new packet structs, whatever was missing from the community, it wouldn't be missing anymore. You on the other hand, you would NOT do that.
