All msnmsgr does is forward/open a UDP port using the UPnP protocol. UDP ports are not used by any trojan or any type of windows shell that would allow access to your computer.
And FYI, any program connected to the internet bypasses your firewall, and in a sense, does the same thing as MSN. There is no threat from it because telnet (remote command-line interface) operates through the TCP protocol. Even if you leave that port open, there is no real threat by doing so.
